Premium Coconut Coir Pith Block (1.4 lb) – Compressed Coco Peat, Expands to 9x Volume, Superior Moisture Retention, Sustainable Peat Moss Alternative

Nine Times the Volume From One Compressed Brick A single 1.4 lb brick of this compressed coco peat doesn't look like much on the shelf, but add water and it transforms into roughly nine times its dry volume, enough loose, moisture-holding growing medium to fill seed trays, pots, or a full raised bed amendment without the bulk and shipping weight of bagged soil. It's a genuine, renewable alternative to peat moss, made from the fibrous husk of coconuts rather than harvested from slow-forming peat bogs, and it performs the same core job with real advantages of its own. Who Uses Coconut Coir Pith Block? The seed starter wanting a clean, moisture-retentive medium for trays and seedlings. The container and raised bed gardener wanting to amend soil without hauling heavy bags. The sustainability-minded gardener wanting a genuine, renewable alternative to peat moss. The hydroponic and soilless grower wanting a reliable base medium for various growing systems. What This Compressed Coco Peat Actually Is Coconut coir pith, often called coco peat, is a byproduct of coconut husk processing, made from the fine, fibrous pith left over once the coarser coconut fiber is removed. This block compresses that pith into a dense, lightweight 1.4 lb brick that expands to roughly nine times its dry volume once rehydrated with water, yielding a loose, dark brown growing medium with excellent moisture retention and good aeration. Unlike sphagnum peat moss, which is harvested from slow-regenerating peat bogs, coconut coir is a renewable byproduct of an existing agricultural industry, making it a genuinely more sustainable choice for gardeners looking to reduce their reliance on peat-based products. It has a near-neutral pH, unlike the acidic nature of peat moss, and holds moisture well while still allowing roots to breathe. Suitable for seed starting, potting mixes, hydroponic systems, and soil amendment. Uses in the Garden & Growing Space Seed starting: Use rehydrated coir as a clean, fine-textured medium for starting seeds in trays or pots. Potting mix component: Blend into potting soil for improved moisture retention and aeration. Raised bed amendment: Mix into raised bed soil to improve structure and water-holding capacity. Hydroponic growing: Use as a soilless growing medium in hydroponic or semi-hydroponic systems. Mulching: Apply a layer around established plants to help retain soil moisture. Worm bin bedding: Use rehydrated coir as a moisture-retentive bedding material for vermicomposting. Preparing & Using Coconut Coir Pith Block Rehydration method: Place the compressed block in a large container and add warm water. Expansion time: Allow 10-20 minutes for the block to fully absorb water and expand. Expansion ratio: One 1.4 lb block typically expands to roughly 9 times its dry volume. Fluffing: Break apart and fluff the expanded coir for an even, loose texture. Moisture level: Add water gradually and stop once the coir is evenly moist, not waterlogged. pH note: Coco coir has a near-neutral pH, generally requiring less amendment than peat moss. Storage: Store the unexpanded block in a cool, dry place until needed. Blending: Mix with perlite, compost, or other amendments depending on the intended growing use. Before You Close This Page This is a growing medium that solves two problems at once, genuine sustainability compared to peat moss and real convenience compared to bagged soil. One compressed Coconut Coir Pith Block expands into nine times its volume in loose, moisture-retentive growing medium, ready for seed trays, potting mixes, raised beds, or hydroponic systems. It's lightweight to ship and store, and it performs without the environmental cost of harvested peat. Add water, and watch one small brick become a genuinely useful amount of growing medium.
