Growing Tips for Pasilla Bajio Pepper Seeds: Planting: Start seeds indoors 8-10 weeks before the last frost date. Sow seeds 1/4 inch deep in a quality seed-starting mix. Keep soil consistently moist and maintain a temperature of 70-85°F for optimal germination. Transplanting: Once seedlings have developed two sets of true leaves and the risk of frost has passed, transplant them outdoors into well-draining soil. Space plants 18-24 inches apart in rows 24-36 inches apart. Soil: Prefers rich, well-draining soil with plenty of organic matter. Ensure soil is fertile by adding compost or well-rotted manure before planting. Maintain a soil pH between 6.0-6.8. Watering: Keep soil consistently moist but avoid overwatering. Water at the base of the plant to prevent leaf diseases and encourage deep root growth. Sunlight: Requires full sun (at least 6-8 hours of direct sunlight daily) for best growth and fruit production. Fertilization: Feed with a balanced fertilizer or compost tea every 2-3 weeks during the growing season to promote healthy growth and high yields. Support: Use stakes or cages to support plants and keep them upright, especially as they begin to produce heavy fruit. Pruning: Prune lower leaves and any suckers to improve air circulation and focus the plant’s energy on fruit production. Harvesting: Harvest peppers when they reach their mature size (about 6-8 inches long) and have a glossy dark green color. For a richer flavor, allow peppers to ripen further until they turn dark brown.
