Peas prefer cool temperatures (40–75°F / 4–24°C) and will thrive before summer heat sets in. You can also plant a late summer crop for fall harvests in cooler climates. Avoid high-nitrogen fertilizers, peas fix their own nitrogen with the help of soil bacteria, enriching your garden naturally for future crops. To encourage strong root growth, inoculate seeds with a legume inoculant before planting. Mulch lightly to retain moisture, and water consistently during flowering and pod formation for plumper, juicier peas. 🌸 Harvesting Tips Harvest peas when pods are bright green and filled out, but before they begin to harden. The sweetest flavor comes when peas are young and tender. Simply pinch pods off the vine or use scissors to avoid damaging stems. Regular harvesting encourages continued pod production. For best flavor, eat peas immediately after picking, as sugars begin to convert to starch soon after harvest. You can also freeze or blanch peas to preserve their sweetness and texture for months. 🍽️ Culinary Uses Few garden treats rival the fresh, crisp taste of Markerbse ‘Remus’ peas straight from the vine! 🌿 These tender, sweet peas are perfect for: Fresh snacking – enjoy them raw as a healthy, garden-fresh treat.
