Hutcheson Soybean (Glycine max) Seeds – High-Yield Food Plot & Cover Crop Variety, Excellent Nitrogen Fixer, Great for Deer & Wildlife Forage

Minimum: 150+ Seeds The Food Plot Standard Few soybean varieties have earned the reputation Hutcheson has among food plot managers and wildlife growers. Bred for high yield and vigorous growth, this variety produces heavy foliage and abundant pods that deer and other wildlife return to season after season, while also serving as an effective nitrogen-fixing cover crop for improving soil between plantings. It's a working variety with real agricultural roots, not a specialty seed dressed up for the wildlife market, delivering exactly the tonnage and forage quality food plot growers depend on. Who Grows Hutcheson Soybean? The food plot manager wanting a proven, high-yield variety for deer and wildlife forage. The hunter and land manager building a season-long attractant and nutrition source for deer. The cover crop grower wanting a genuine nitrogen-fixing legume for soil improvement. What This High-Yield Forage Variety Actually Is Glycine max 'Hutcheson' is a determinate soybean variety developed for high yield and strong agronomic performance, widely adopted in food plot and forage applications for its vigorous growth and heavy pod set. Plants grow bushy and upright, typically 3 to 4 feet tall, producing abundant trifoliate foliage that deer graze heavily through the season, followed by a substantial pod crop providing high-protein forage into fall and winter. As a legume, its roots host nitrogen-fixing bacteria that improve soil fertility, making it valuable both as a standalone food plot planting and a rotational cover crop. Its high yield and broad adaptability have made it a long-standing standard in agricultural and wildlife management. Grown as a warm-season annual, not frost-hardy. In the Food Plot & Field Season-long deer forage: Plant for foliage deer graze through summer and pods that persist into fall. High-tonnage food plot: Use as a primary food plot crop where maximum forage volume is the goal. Nitrogen-fixing cover crop: Plant in rotation to improve soil fertility ahead of a following crop. Multi-species wildlife forage: Grow to support deer alongside turkey, upland birds, and other wildlife. Standalone or blended planting: Plant alone for maximum tonnage or blend with other food plot species. Soil-building rotation: Use between plantings to rebuild nitrogen in depleted food plot soil. Growing Hutcheson Soybean Seeds Start method: Direct sow outdoors after last frost, once soil has warmed. Germination: Sprouts in 5-10 days in warm soil. Soil temperature: Best above 60°F, with 65-85°F ideal. Seeding rate: Follow standard food plot seeding rates for full stand establishment. Sunlight: Full sun. Soil: Fertile, well-drained soil supports strong growth and the highest yield. Watering: Relies mainly on rainfall; consistent moisture during establishment improves stands. Deer pressure note: Heavy browsing can suppress young plants; larger plots better withstand grazing. Growth habit: Bushy, upright growth reaching full size over the season. Harvest, forage: No harvest needed for forage use; deer and wildlife graze foliage and pods directly. Hardiness: Grown as a warm-season annual; killed by frost. Rotation timing: Plant in rotation with grain or cover crops to maximize soil benefit.
