Gerbil Grazing Seed Mix Safe, natural blend of grasses and herbs for gerbils to nibble, dig, and forage like they would in the wild.

Minimum: 1000+ Seeds A Living Blend to Grow For Your Gerbil Wild gerbils don't just eat seeds, they dig through living vegetation, nibbling roots, stems, and leaves as they go. This blend is built to recreate that, a mix of grasses, legumes, and herbs meant to be grown out into an actual living planter your gerbil can graze from directly, in the cage or set out for supervised foraging time. Instead of a static bowl of dry seed, it gives them a small patch of real, growing greenery to explore. Who Grows Gerbil Grazing Garden? The gerbil owner wanting to offer fresh, living greens instead of only dry seed mix. The small-pet keeper interested in an in-cage or supervised out-of-cage grazing planter. The green-thumbed pet parent who enjoys growing food for their animals from seed. The owner wanting a rotating, low-cost source of fresh grass and greens between plantings. What This Living Blend Actually Is This mix combines fast-growing grasses, sproutable legumes, and small amounts of edible herbs selected to be grown out as fresh greenery rather than eaten only as dry seed. Grown in a shallow tray or pot, the blend produces tender grass and leaf growth gerbils can nibble directly from the living plant. Grass base: Barley ('Golden Promise') and Timothy Grass ('Climax'), fast-growing, high-fiber grasses that form the bulk of the living planting. Legume green: Alfalfa ('Common'), nutrient-dense and quick to grow into tender, leafy shoots. Minor seed component: Safflower ('White Sun'), included in small amounts; the seed heads can be left to mature for gerbils to crack open. Minor protein green: Amaranth (Love Lies Bleeding Red), grown sparingly for its edible young leaves and seed heads. Minor aromatic herbs: Basil ('Vino Verde') and Parsley (Triple Curled), included in small amounts for scent and flavor variety, not as a primary green. Growing & Using Gerbil Grazing Garden Start method: Sow seed thickly across the surface of moist potting soil in a shallow, wide tray or pot. Germination: Grasses and alfalfa sprout in 3 to 7 days with consistent moisture and light. Light: A bright windowsill or grow light supports steady, even growth. Watering: Keep soil consistently moist; mist or water gently to avoid disturbing shallow roots. Grazing access: Once growth reaches 2 to 3 inches, offer the tray in-cage or for supervised out-of-cage time. Rotation: Grow a second tray a week behind the first so a fresh planting is always ready to swap in. Regrowth: Grasses will regrow after light nibbling; replant the tray once growth is exhausted. Herb moderation: Let basil and parsley make up only a small portion of any planting, not the bulk of it. New food caution: Introduce any new green gradually and watch for tolerance, as with any dietary change. Before You Close This Page This is a mix built to be grown, not just scattered, giving gerbils an actual living patch of grass and greens to dig through and graze the way they would in the wild. Barley and timothy form a fast, fibrous base, alfalfa adds tender leafy growth, and small amounts of safflower, amaranth, basil, and parsley round out the variety. Keep a tray growing in rotation, and your gerbil gets fresh greenery on a regular schedule instead of a one-time treat. Grow the garden that turns grazing time into the real thing.
