Fino Verde Basil Seeds (Ocimum basilicum) – Dwarf Sweet Basil/Fine Green Basil, Italian Heirloom, Compact Container-Friendly, Small Fragrant Leaves for Pesto, Non-GMO Culinary Herb

Minimum: 50+ Seeds Fino Verde Basil — The Italian Compact Powerhouse That Looks Like Garden Topiary Fino Verde is the basil for people without space. It grows as a perfect small globe, 8 to 12 inches tall, fitting effortlessly into containers, window boxes, and tight corners where larger basils sprawl and take over. The leaves are tiny and intensely fragrant, packed with the sweet peppery flavor of Italian basil without any of the size. It takes three weeks longer to bolt than Genovese, meaning it keeps producing fresh leaves all season instead of racing to flower. Chefs prize it for pesto, where the small leaves mean more surface area relative to weight, and for salads and garnishes where the delicate flavor stays subtle. Who Grows Fino Verde Basil? Container gardeners and balcony growers with limited space who want a full basil harvest. Italian cooks making fresh pesto who want intense flavor from small, manageable leaves. Anyone who has grown Genovese basil and watched it sprawl, then learned that Fino Verde stays tidy. Windowsill herb gardeners. And anyone who appreciates a plant that is both useful and beautiful enough to function as an ornamental. What This Plant Actually Is Ocimum basilicum 'Fino Verde', a dwarf Italian heirloom sweet basil cultivar reaching 8 to 12 inches tall and forming a dense, rounded globe of soft, dark green, small leaves. The plant is open-pollinated and traditionally grown across Italy for its compact form and intense basil flavor. Unlike larger Genovese varieties, Fino Verde produces leaves that are smaller and more delicate but no less flavorful... the taste is sweet basil with a subtle peppery spice and no bitterness. The plant is slow to bolt, remaining productive for the entire season rather than racing to flower. Maturity is fast, 60 to 70 days from seed. In the Kitchen Fresh Pesto: The classic use. Small leaves require less chopping and offer more surface area for bruising and releasing oils into sauces. Fresh Salads and Caprese: Tender, delicate leaves add basil flavor without overwhelming other ingredients. Use leaves and soft stems whole. Garnish: Perfect for finishing soups, pasta, pizzas, and tomato dishes. The small leaves look elegant on the plate. Tomato Sauces and Braises: Add fresh at the end of cooking to preserve the subtle flavor and fragrance. Compound Butters and Vinegars: Small leaves infuse quickly and cleanly without visible particulates. Growing Fino Verde Basil Starting Seed: Sow indoors 5-6 weeks before last frost. Direct sow after last frost, ¼ inch deep. Seeds germinate in 7-10 days in warm soil. Sunlight: Full sun. 6-8 hours minimum. More sun = more leaves and better flavor. Soil: Well-draining, fertile. Add compost or general-purpose fertilizer before planting. Spacing: 8 inches apart. The compact size allows tight spacing. Water: Regular, consistent moisture during growing season. Do not let soil dry out completely. Pinching: Pinch off top tips early to encourage bushier growth and more leaves. Temperature: Tender annual, frost-sensitive. Thrives in warm weather, 70°F and above. Hardening Off: Gradually increase light and temperature before transplanting outdoors. Harvest: Pinch or cut leaves as needed.
