Minimum: 25+ Seeds Carousel Corn Seeds – Fall Color You Can Grow 🌽🍂 If you've ever wanted to grow something that stops people mid-step and makes them ask where you got it, Carousel ornamental corn is your answer. This stunning variety produces ears packed with glossy, multicolored kernels in shades of burgundy, gold, orange, cream, purple, and bronze... every ear is unique, like nature's own kaleidoscope. Carousel isn't sweet corn for eating fresh, it's the kind of corn you grow for beauty, for fall displays, for wreaths and centerpieces and porch décor that lasts all season. Home gardeners, crafters, florists, and anyone who loves autumn traditions will find Carousel incredibly rewarding. This is the corn that turns your garden harvest into art. Every Ear Is a Work of Art Carousel produces medium to large ears, typically 7 to 9 inches long, with tightly packed kernels in rich, jewel-toned colors. You'll see deep burgundy next to bright orange, buttery yellow beside cream, with splashes of purple, red, and bronze throughout. No two ears are identical... each one is a surprise. The kernels have a glossy, almost lacquered finish that catches the light beautifully, and the colors deepen and intensify as the ears dry. The husks peel back to reveal the stunning kernels underneath, making them perfect for displaying whole or arranging in baskets, wreaths, and garlands. Carousel is the corn you see at farm stands and fall festivals, the kind that makes people reach for their wallets before they even ask the price. Grown for Beauty, Not the Table Carousel is a flint corn, which means the kernels are hard and starchy when mature. It's not meant for eating fresh like sweet corn. Instead, it's grown for ornamental use, fall decoration, and long-term storage. Once dried, the ears last for years without fading or molding, making them reusable décor you can pull out every autumn. Some people do grind dried Carousel kernels into cornmeal or use them for popcorn (results vary... flint corns can pop, but not as reliably as dedicated popcorn varieties), but the real value is visual. If you're looking for corn to grow beautiful fall displays, Carousel ornamental corn seeds are exactly what you need. Easy to Grow, Rewarding to Harvest Carousel grows just like any other corn... plant it, water it, and let it do its thing. The stalks reach 5 to 7 feet tall, sturdy and upright, with each plant producing 1 to 2 ears. The growing process is straightforward, and the payoff is pure satisfaction. Watching those colorful kernels develop inside the husks never gets old. Growing Guide That Works: When to plant: Direct sow after all danger of frost has passed and soil has warmed to at least 60°F, ideally 65 to 70°F. Corn won't germinate in cold, wet soil. In most regions, this means late spring to early summer. Soil: Rich, well-drained soil with plenty of organic matter. Corn is a heavy feeder, so work in compost or aged manure before planting. pH around 6.0 to 7.0 is ideal. Sunlight: Full sun. Corn needs at least 6 to 8 hours of direct light daily. Spacing: Plant seeds 8 to 12 inches apart in blocks or short rows rather than single long rows. Corn is wind-pollinated, and block planting improves pollination and kernel fill. Water: Keep soil consistently moist, especially during tasseling and silk development. Corn is shallow-rooted and needs regular water to produce full, well-filled ears. Fertilization: Side-dress with compost or balanced fertilizer when plants are knee-high and again when tassels appear. Corn loves nitrogen. Germination: Seeds sprout in 7 to 10 days. Look for sturdy seedlings pushing up through the soil. Maturity: Carousel matures in 100 to 110 days. You'll know it's ready when the husks dry and turn brown and the kernels are hard and fully colored. Harvest: Leave ears on the stalk as long as possible to dry naturally. Harvest before heavy frost or extended wet weather. Peel back husks partially to check kernel color and hardness. Once harvested, hang ears in a dry, well-ventilated space to finish drying. Carousel grows well in large containers or raised beds if you don't have traditional garden space. Just make sure you plant at least 6 to 10 stalks together for proper pollination. Perfect for Fall Crafts and Décor Carousel corn is endlessly versatile for seasonal projects. Display whole ears in wooden bowls, wicker baskets, or vintage crates. Wire them into wreaths with dried flowers, wheat stalks, and autumn leaves. Hang them from mantels or doorways. Scatter them across tablescapes for Thanksgiving. Use individual kernels in craft projects, jewelry, or mosaic art. The colors work beautifully with traditional fall palettes... burnt orange, deep red, golden yellow... but they're rich and saturated enough to stand alone as statement pieces. Florists and event designers love Carousel for weddings, harvest dinners, and seasonal installations. If you're selling at farmers' markets or craft fairs, dried Carousel ears move fast and command premium prices. Heirloom Beauty with Modern Appeal Ornamental corn has been grown for centuries, both by Indigenous peoples of the Americas and by European settlers who valued it for food, decoration, and ceremonial use.
