Zoladex Description Zoladex is an implant by injection.Zoladex is a man-made form of a hormone that regulates many processes in the body. Goserelin overstimulates the body’s own production of certain hormones, which causes that production to shut down temporarily. The Zoladex implant is injected under the skin of the abdomen, from where it steadily releases goserelin into the bloodstream over a four week period. It is used for : Prostate cancer, Breast cancer, Endometriosis, Thinning the lining of the womb (endometrium) prior to surgery (endometrial ablation or resection). Fibroids of the uterus (prior to surgery, in combination with iron in women who are anaemic). Preparing the pituitary gland before treatment with gonadotrophins to stimulate ovulation in fertility treatment (IVF). An implant is injected every 28 days. Zoladex – What’s Included The Zoladex implant comes in pre-filled syringes, ready to inject. The Difference Between US and European Zoladex Zoladex on IVFPharmacy is made by Astra Zeneca Pharmaceuticals. It is a brand medication, not generic. The drug composition is exactly the same as Zoladex in the US but the packaging may vary slightly. Zoladex Uses and Side Effects Zoladex Uses & Indications: Zoladex is a gonadorelin (LHRH) analogue. It acts on the pituitary gland to stop certain hormones from being produced.Zoladex is used in treating prostate cancer in men and breast cancer in women. It is also used to treat various endocrine and uterine disorders, for example, Endometriosis. Zoladex reduces Estrogen levels in women and helps to thin the uterus lining. Zoladex Side Effects: Common Zoladex side effects include: hot flashes; sweating; painful urination; mood changes; increased or decreased interest in sex; changes in sexual function; headache; swelling in your hands or feet; vaginal dryness, itching, or discharge; changes in breast size; or acne, mild skin rash or itching. More serious side effects include: pain, bruising, swelling, redness, oozing, or bleeding where the implant was injected; dizziness, trouble breathing, feeling light-headed; high blood sugar; high calcium levels (confusion, tiredness, nausea, vomiting, loss of appetite, constipation, increased thirst or urination, weight loss); heart attack symptoms (chest pain or pressure, pain spreading to your jaw or shoulder, nausea, sweating); or signs of a blood clot (sudden numbness or weakness on one side of the body, chest pain, problems with vision or speech, pain or swelling in one leg).
