Admiral’s Zinc Anode is made to protect your lake, pond, and marine equipment from galvanic corrosion and improve its longevity. How does it work? Zinc anodes, oftentimes referred to as sacrificial anodes, give up their own electrons sooner than other metals that are in close contact with the anode, in essence “sacrificing” themselves to protect other metals. In the case of equipment that has metallic components like the JetStream Aqua Blower, this implies protection of the aluminum intake and motor brackets as well as the stainless steel motor. Depending on water type and quality, zinc anodes will have different reactions. As a rule of thumb, we recommend changing zinc anodes once per season or when the anode is visibly white or more than 50% deteriorated. Failure to replace an anode will not spell doom for your lake or pond equipment, but remember; though small and easily forgettable, zinc anodes are an important feature that will help to maximize your equipment’s useful life and keep corrosion at bay. Replacement of zinc anodes in marine environments, on the other hand, is extremely important to make sure that metals stay structurally sound, as brackish and saltwater are very tough on metals and will cause them to deteriorate quickly if not protected.
