Zebra, ZD421, 4" Thermal Transfer Label Printer

Zebra ZD421t Thermal Transfer Desktop Label Printer A versatile 4-inch thermal transfer printer for durable shipping, inventory, product, asset and compliance labels. The Zebra ZD421t combines thermal transfer and direct thermal printing with a compact desktop footprint, intuitive controls and flexible connectivity. It is designed for businesses that need dependable barcode labels with longer life and greater resistance to handling, abrasion, moisture and environmental exposure. Product Description The Zebra ZD421t is the standard ribbon-roll thermal transfer version of the ZD421 desktop printer. It uses thermal transfer ribbon to produce durable labels on compatible paper and synthetic materials, while also supporting direct thermal media for short-life applications that do not require ribbon. Its approximately 4-inch print width makes it suitable for common shipping, carton, inventory, product, shelf and asset-label formats. Available in 203 dpi and 300 dpi configurations, the ZD421t can be selected for either general-purpose barcode printing or more detailed output. The 203 dpi model is well suited to standard shipping and inventory labels, while the 300 dpi model provides improved definition for small text, compact barcodes and detailed graphics. USB and USB Host are standard, with Ethernet, serial, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth available depending on the selected configuration or installed upgrade module. Important: Confirm the complete Zebra part number before ordering. A single character may change print method, resolution, connectivity, media handling, regional certification or included power cord. Compatible Accessories and Upgrade Options Accessory / Option Purpose Selection Notes Ethernet Connectivity Module Adds wired Ethernet to compatible modular-slot configurations. Useful for shared printers, centralized management and fixed network workstations. Serial Connectivity Module Adds serial connectivity for legacy hosts and specialized equipment. Confirm connector and communication settings before ordering. Wi-Fi / Bluetooth Wireless Module Adds wireless network and Bluetooth connectivity to compatible configurations. Wireless standards and regional certifications vary by module and printer revision. Label Dispenser / Peeler Separates each printed label from the liner and presents it for immediate application. Best for repetitive labeling where operators apply one label at a time. Cutter Cuts compatible continuous media, tags or labels after printing. Confirm media material and thickness are approved for cutter use. Battery Base and Battery Supports cart-based and mobile desktop printing away from a fixed outlet. Useful for healthcare carts, warehouse stations and mobile labeling work areas. Replacement Printhead Restores print quality when the original printhead reaches the end of its service life. The replacement must match the printer's 203 dpi or 300 dpi resolution. Replacement Platen Roller Replaces a worn drive roller that can contribute to feeding or print-quality problems. Match the part to the exact ZD421t chassis and print resolution. Accessory compatibility depends on the exact ZD421t configuration and installed front bezel or connectivity slot. Verify fit before ordering. Labels, Ribbons and Consumables Consumable Type Recommended Use Selection Guidance Zebra Z-Perform Thermal Transfer Paper Labels Shipping, carton, inventory, shelf and general barcode labels. Pair with a compatible wax or wax/resin ribbon based on durability requirements. Zebra Z-Select Thermal Transfer Paper Labels Applications needing smoother paper stock and improved print quality. Useful for smaller barcodes, sharper text and higher-quality presentation. Zebra Z-Ultimate Synthetic Labels Asset, product and identification labels requiring moisture and abrasion resistance. Usually paired with a compatible resin ribbon. Zebra 2300 Wax Ribbon Economical general-purpose printing on uncoated and coated paper labels. Best for indoor applications with limited abrasion or chemical exposure. Zebra 3200 Wax/Resin Ribbon Durable printing on coated paper and selected synthetic labels. Provides better smear and abrasion resistance than standard wax. Zebra 6100 Wax/Resin Ribbon General wax/resin applications requiring dependable resistance and image quality. Confirm compatibility with the selected face stock. Zebra 5095 Resin Ribbon High-durability synthetic labels exposed to abrasion, moisture or chemicals. Qualify the complete label-and-ribbon combination in the actual operating environment. Cleaning Pens and Approved Swabs Routine printhead and media-path maintenance. Regular cleaning helps preserve print quality and extend printhead life. Ribbon width should cover the full label liner without exceeding the printer's supported ribbon width. Label face stock, adhesive and ribbon chemistry must be matched to the surface, temperature, exposure and required label life. Choosing Between 203 dpi and 300 dpi 203 dpiBest for 4 x 6 shipping labels, inventory labels, carton labels, standard barcodes and larger text. It generally prints faster and costs less. 300 dpiBest for small text, compact labels, dense 2D barcodes, detailed graphics and applications that require increased image definition. Configuration guidance: Confirm print resolution, connectivity, cutter or dispenser requirements, label dimensions, core size, roll diameter, sensing method, adhesive, face material and ribbon formulation before ordering. The ZD421t is a desktop printer intended for low-to-moderate volume workflows; higher-volume or more demanding applications may be better served by a Zebra ZT Series industrial printer.
