YubiKey NFC Adapter - 3D Printed

Maximize Your YubiKey's NFC Range with the YubiKey NFC Adapter The 3D Printed YubiKey NFC Adapter is an essential accessory for enhancing the range of your NFC-enabled YubiKey when used with the Keyport Pivot. The Pivot’s durable metal chassis can sometimes reduce NFC performance, depending on your smartphone type or protective case. This issue can also occur if your YubiKey is sandwiched between two metal keys without Delrin plastic spacers. The YubiKey Adapter solves both problems by extending your YubiKey beyond the metal body, ensuring optimal NFC functionality. Print these parts yourself by downloading our $0.99 maker files! Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) - YubiKeys & YubiKey NFC Adapter What is the YubiKey NFC Adapter and why do I need it? The YubiKey NFC Adapter is a compact add-on designed to integrate your YubiKey 5 Series, Bio Series, or Security Series security key with the Keyport Pivot key organizer. The thin plastic clamshell sandwiches your YubiKey, creating a physical buffer between it and surrounding metal keys or tools. This helps maintain strong NFC signal performance and protects your YubiKey while keeping it easily accessible as part of your everyday carry. Does the adapter improve NFC performance? The YubiKey can work fine on its own in the Keyport Pivot, especially if you use Delrin spacers to prevent direct contact between the YubiKey and surrounding metal. That said, the YubiKey NFC Adapter is a great option to improve NFC signal strength by reducing interference caused by nearby metal keys or tools. In compact setups like the Pivot, metal components can weaken the NFC signal. The adapter helps mitigate this by minimizing metal-to-contact interference, improving reliability when tapping to authenticate with phones and other NFC-enabled devices. Is the YubiKey NFC Adapter compatible with my phone or device? Yes, the adapter is designed to work with most modern smartphones and tablets that support NFC (Near Field Communication). This includes iPhones (iPhone 7 and newer with iOS 13.3+), Android phones, and many tablets. Simply place your YubiKey against the adapter, and then tap it on your device’s NFC reader for quick authentication. How do I use the YubiKey NFC Adapter with my YubiKey? Installing the YubiKey NFC Adapter is quick and straightforward: 1. Prepare the Adapter: Peel off the backing from the included 3M adhesive to expose the sticky surface. 2. Align and Attach: Position the adapter’s male protrusions with your YubiKey’s mounting hole, ensuring proper alignment. Press firmly to secure the adapter to the YubiKey. Using the Adapter Once installed, using your YubiKey with the adapter is simple: 1. Activate NFC (if necessary): If your YubiKey’s NFC functionality is not yet activated, plug it into a USB power source (like your computer) for at least 3 seconds to enable NFC. Authenticate: Hold the adapter (with the YubiKey attached) near your device’s NFC reader. Your device will detect the YubiKey and prompt you to authenticate. This setup allows you to securely access your accounts on the go—whether it’s email, password managers, crypto wallets, or enterprise tools—without needing to remove the YubiKey from your Keyport Pivot. Does the adapter affect the functionality or security of the YubiKey? Not at all. The YubiKey NFC Adapter is a passive device—it doesn’t store data or interfere with the YubiKey’s core cryptographic functions. It simply makes it easier to use your YubiKey with mobile devices that have NFC, without the need for a USB port or special cable. Can I still use USB authentication with the adapter installed? Absolutely. The YubiKey’s USB interface (USB-A or USB-C depending on your model) remains fully accessible while in the adapter. You can plug it directly into a computer or other USB device just as you normally would—making this a truly versatile addition to your dual-mode security workflow. Why choose Keyport’s YubiKey NFC Adapter over others? Keyport’s adapter is built for everyday carry: lightweight, low-profile, and durable.
