Yes, I Will Shine

"Yes, I Will Shine" Quadriptych · Acrylic on Canvas | 36" × 48" | 2025 Artist: J-Bone This commanding quadriptych pulses with unapologetic energy and cultural defiance. Two larger-than-life portraits of young African American women command the canvas, their faces rendered in electrifying gradients of gold, saffron, and fiery orange against a saturated blood-red ground. Bold black contour lines—reminiscent of woodcut prints and urban graffiti—carve out high cheekbones, full lips parted in triumphant song or shout, and luminous yellow irises that stare directly at the viewer. One eye winks with knowing confidence; the other holds a steady, unflinching gaze. Intricate golden headwraps, patterned with thick black linework that suggests both traditional African textile design and contemporary street style, frame the faces like crowns. A single yellow chain earring catches the light at center, while white highlights on teeth and nose tips give the figures a glowing, almost sculptural presence. The two portraits are joined at the vertical seam, creating a single powerful statement that feels both intimate and monumental. At the heart of the composition, a crisp white negative space bears striking red Arabic calligraphy that reads 'نعم، سأشرق' — "Yes, I Will Shine". The bilingual declaration serves as both title and manifesto, fusing English accessibility with Arabic elegance and universal resonance. Painted in rich, textured acrylic with visible brushwork and subtle panel seams that echo the grit of the city itself, Yes, I Will Shine is a vibrant affirmation of Black girl magic and DC's indigenous "Chocolate City" soul. It radiates joy, resilience, and unyielding ambition — the perfect statement piece for collectors who champion contemporary art with heart, heritage, and cultural power. Ready to hang.
