The GE Refrigerator Evaporator Fan Motor powers the fan that circulates cold air from the evaporator coils throughout the freezer and fresh food compartments. It runs continuously during cooling cycles, drawing air across the evaporator and pushing it through the refrigerator to maintain consistent temperatures in both sections. The GE Refrigerator Evaporator Fan Motor can fail due to worn bearings, a burned-out motor winding, ice buildup blocking the fan blade, or general wear from years of continuous use. When the motor weakens or stops, airflow is reduced or cut off entirely, causing the refrigerator to lose its ability to cool properly even when the compressor is still running. Look for these symptoms to help determine if the evaporator fan motor needs to be replaced: - Refrigerator or freezer not cooling properly despite the compressor running - Unusual squealing, grinding, or rattling noise coming from inside the freezer - No airflow felt when the freezer door is opened - Frost or ice buildup on the evaporator cover or back wall of the freezer - Fresh food section is warm while the freezer stays cold - Fan blade spins freely by hand but motor does not run on its own - Refrigerator runs constantly but cannot reach the set temperature
