The GE Refrigerator Ice Maker is the self-contained unit inside your freezer compartment that automatically produces and harvests ice cubes. It monitors water fill, freezing cycles, and ejection to continuously supply ice to the bin below. The GE Refrigerator Ice Maker can stop working due to a failed heating element that releases frozen cubes, a worn motor that drives the ejector arms, or a faulty thermostat that misjudges when ice is ready to harvest. Water inlet issues, mineral buildup, or a cracked housing can also cause the unit to underperform or stop producing ice entirely. Look for these symptoms to help determine if your ice maker needs to be replaced: - Ice maker produces no ice despite water supply being connected and turned on - Ice maker runs through cycles but does not eject or drop ice into the bin - Ice cubes are hollow, undersized, or oddly shaped - Ice maker overfills with water and freezes into a solid block - Loud clicking, grinding, or humming sounds during the ice making cycle - Ice bin remains empty even after allowing several hours for production - Visible cracks, broken ejector arms, or physical damage to the unit
