The Whirlpool Washer Pressure Switch monitors the water level in the tub and signals the control to start agitation, pause filling, or begin draining. It senses air pressure through a small hose connected to the tub and changes electrical contacts when the target level is reached. Common failures come from a clogged or leaking pressure hose, a loose hose connection, or wear inside the switch that keeps it from changing states at the right time. Detergent residue, lint, or debris can also affect the air path and lead to incorrect water-level sensing. These symptoms can help you decide if this pressure switch is the source of the problem: Washer overfills or keeps filling past the selected level Washer underfills, leading to weak agitation or poor rinse performance Cycle will not advance because the washer does not “sense” that the tub has filled Intermittent filling, stopping, then filling again without completing the cycle Drains immediately after filling or will not start agitation after filling Error codes or water-level faults related to fill, overflow, or sensing on models that display them
