Whirlpool Cooktop (W10396829)

The Whirlpool Cooktop replaces the main surface cooking unit that sits atop your range and provides the heating zones used for everyday cooking. It houses the burner elements or heating coils and works together with the range controls to regulate heat output across each cooking surface. A Whirlpool cooktop can wear out or become damaged from cracked or shattered glass, burned-out heating elements, physical impact, or years of heavy use and thermal cycling. Discoloration, deep scratches, or element failures that cannot be fixed by replacing individual burners often mean the cooktop surface itself needs to be replaced. These symptoms can help you decide if a cooktop replacement matches your problem: - Cracked, chipped, or shattered cooktop surface - One or more burner zones no longer heat up - Burner element glows unevenly or heats inconsistently - Visible burn marks or permanent discoloration on the surface - Surface feels unstable or does not sit flush on the range - Sparking or electrical issues traced to the cooktop surface - Deep scratches or damage that interfere with cookware contact
