The Whirlpool Refrigerator Ice Maker is the self-contained assembly responsible for producing and harvesting ice inside your bottom-mount refrigerator. It works by filling a mold with water, freezing it to a set temperature, and then using a heating element and ejector arm to release the cubes into the ice bin below. The Whirlpool Refrigerator Ice Maker can fail due to a burned-out heating element, a faulty thermostat, a broken ejector arm, or wear on the motor and internal components over time. Water mineral deposits and freezing issues can also cause the assembly to stop cycling properly, leaving you with no ice or a partially working unit. Look for these symptoms to help determine if the ice maker assembly needs to be replaced: - Ice maker produces no ice despite water supply being connected and turned on - Ice maker cycles but cubes are not ejected into the bin - Ice cubes come out misshapen, undersized, or partially frozen - Ice maker runs continuously without stopping or shutting off - Loud clicking, grinding, or humming sounds during the ice-making cycle - Ice bin remains empty even after allowing several hours for production - Visible cracks, broken arms, or damaged components on the assembly
