Whirlpool DSI Bake Burner (WP9758078)

The Whirlpool DSI Bake Burner is the main heat source located at the bottom of your range oven cavity, responsible for generating the heat needed for baking and roasting. DSI stands for direct spark ignition, meaning the burner uses an electric spark to ignite the gas flame rather than a standing pilot light. When working properly, it lights quickly and maintains a steady, even flame across the burner tube to heat the oven to your selected temperature. The Whirlpool DSI Bake Burner can fail over time due to clogged burner ports from grease or food debris, a cracked or warped burner tube, or corrosion from moisture exposure inside the oven cavity. Repeated heating and cooling cycles can weaken the metal, and a damaged burner may no longer ignite reliably or sustain a consistent flame. Watch for these symptoms to help determine if the bake burner needs to be replaced: - Oven fails to heat up after the igniter clicks - Burner flame is uneven, weak, or only lights on part of the burner - Oven takes much longer than usual to reach the set temperature - Burner lights briefly then goes out during preheating - Visible cracks, rust, or damage on the burner tube - Oven cycles on and off more frequently than normal - Gas smell without a flame present after ignition attempts
