Super soft t-shirt inspired by the lunch counters in Woolworth stores. Did you see our other Woolworth tees, Woolworth 90s and Woolworth Vintage? The first Woolworth luncheonette opened in the early 1920s. It soon became a fixture of Woolworth stores, with its iconic lunch counters, checkered floors, and great food. The luncheonettes served as community gathering places and a precursor to the modern mall food court. They also became a pivotal setting in the Civil Rights Movement, as activists famously staged sit-ins at the segregated lunch counters. While Woolworth phased out many of its lunch counters in the 80s due to declining sales and competition, the last of the luncheonettes were closed when Woolworth closed its last 400 stores in 1997. 50/50 cotton-poly blend. Made and printed in the USA. Velvety Local Vyntage logo on right sleeve. This t-shirt is tag-less. We're proud to be sharing shopping memories with you.
