Women Photographers

Since it first became an art form nearly two hundred years ago, women have been an instrumental part of the photography world, pushing the boundaries and defying social conventions with each click of their cameras’ shutters. Women Photographers shines a spotlight on these genre-defining pioneers, profiling the work and stories of sixty female photographers who, though they may come from different eras, backgrounds, cultures and artistic sensibilities, have each made important contributions to the art of photography with their unique perspective and voice. A vast range of subjects, styles and techniques are showcased within this book’s pages, from Julia Margaret Cameron’s haunting, moody portraits; to Dorothea Lange’s world-changing documentary photographs; to Lisette Model’s scenes from everyday life; to Newsha Tayakolian’s powerful, politically-charged snapshots; to Nan Goldin’s highly personal images; to Grete Stern’s dreamy, modern photomontages; to Ellen von Unwerth’s fashion shoots. Flip through and find key works from each featured photographer, accompanied by illuminating captions and a brief yet in-depth biography on her contributions to the medium as well as the broader social, cultural and historical contexts in which she worked. A compelling tribute to the lasting mark that women photographers have made on the history of photography and the world at large, Women Photographers is sure to be a source of inspiration for any female creative, especially the photography enthusiasts!   •by Boris Friedewald  •various photographers •hardcover •256 pages   Dimensions: •8.5"W x 1"D x 11"H
