WL Weller Single Barrel Bourbon Whiskey

W.L. Weller Single Barrel is a refined, wheated bourbon showcasing the elegance and softness that define the Weller line, elevated by the unique character of a single barrel. Rich caramel, warm baking spice, and silky wheat sweetness meet subtle oak complexity, resulting in a bourbon that is both approachable and deeply expressive — a true collector’s pour. Origins & Craftsmanship Produced at Buffalo Trace Distillery, Weller Single Barrel begins with the brand’s iconic wheated mash bill, replacing rye with wheat to achieve a naturally softer, sweeter profile. Only barrels showing exceptional balance and aromatic purity are selected for this single-barrel program. Key craftsmanship highlights: Wheated mash bill for smoothness and round sweetness Single-barrel selection ensuring individuality and uniqueness in each bottle Aging in new, charred American oak to build structure, caramel richness, and spice Non-chill filtration (in line with the Weller ethos) preserving mouthfeel and aromatic depth Every barrel expresses slight variations, offering enthusiasts a chance to experience Weller’s profile in its most unblended form. Critics Reviews Professional reviewers consistently praise Weller Single Barrel for its nuanced sweetness and polished character: Whisky Advocate has noted its “velvety wheat-driven smoothness paired with a well-defined oak spine.” The Tasting Panel highlights its “caramel and fruit harmony, elevated by warm spice and excellent structure.” Seasoned bourbon critics frequently call it “one of the most balanced Weller expressions,” applauding its depth and maturity without the intensity of barrel proof variants. Overall, reviewers emphasize its sophistication: expressive yet gentle, complex yet welcoming. Tasting Profile Nose: Sweet aromas of caramel, vanilla bean, honey drizzle, and warm wheat bread, with accents of baked apple, soft oak, and cinnamon spice. Palate: Silky and rounded. Flavors of caramel cream, toffee, brown sugar, and toasted oak unfold alongside warm baking spice, dried fruit, and subtle cocoa. The wheat contributes plush softness and a graceful mid-palate.
