With Blood Upon His Teeth by Adam McOmber

Adam McOmber’s latest novel combines the velvet-curtained drawing room horror of Dark Shadows and The Night Gallery with an unruly and shape-shifting current of contemporary queer desire. After a scandal with a student at Manchester College, Jim Holloway is sent away by his powerful father to Harrow’s Cross, a rotting estate on the Cornish coast. Here, Jim is drawn into a maze of dark history, thick with candle smoke and violent secrets. He meets Kit, the Harrows’ magnetic young American cousin, and falls for him with an intensity that pulls them both further into the house’s shadow. As corridors rearrange themselves and ancient rituals emerge, Jim and Kit must unearth the buried source of the house’s power before they become part of the strange story they’re trying to unravel. Gothic in mood but electric in urgency, Adam McOmber has written a novel in which attraction becomes an investigative force, pulling hidden histories into the light and asking what it costs to follow feelings that refuse to be contained.
