Noord-Holland, Coat of Arms

This chromolithograph presents the official coat of arms of Noord-Holland, the Dutch province that encompasses Amsterdam and the historic heart of the Netherlands. The heraldic lion rampant, rendered in vivid vermillion red with azure tongue and claws, represents centuries of provincial tradition dating to the medieval Counts of Holland. Crowned with a golden provincial coronet, the composition exemplifies the finest in late 19th century Dutch printing. The technical execution demonstrates masterful chromolithography, with rich color saturation that has remained vibrant despite the passage of well over a century. The classic heraldic pose, the lion's distinctive forked tail, and the carefully rendered mane showcase the precision required for official government publications of this era. A handsome example of European civic heraldry, this print bridges decorative appeal with genuine historical significance. It represents not merely a regional symbol but a link to the Dutch Golden Age and the proud maritime heritage of Holland's most influential province.
