This magnificent chromolithograph presents the official emblem of the German Bakers' Guild (Bäcker-Innung), a great example of 19th-century trade heraldry rendered with exceptional craftsmanship. Two golden rampant lions, their tongues extended and claws displayed in classic heraldic pose, flank an elaborate pretzel design surmounted by a royal crown. Below, two perfectly rendered bread rolls rest upon an ornate Baroque pedestal with scrollwork flourishes. Produced by the renowned Wissembourg printing house of C. Burckardt (successor R. Ackermann), this piece represents the height of German chromolithographic achievement. The rich golden yellows, subtle brown gradations, and sophisticated blue-gray architectural elements demonstrate the multiple-stone printing process at its finest. The 'Deponirt' notation confirms this was officially registered imagery, protected for guild use. A remarkable survival from the era when craft guilds commanded respect and influence across German-speaking Europe, this piece speaks to centuries of baking tradition. A standout acquisition for collectors of trade history, culinary ephemera, or fine 19th-century printing. Size: 23.0" x 27.0" Condition: Very Good, Age-appropriate wear, fading and toning.
