Wilderness Trail 5 Year Small Batch Wheated

Wilderness Trail Wheated Bottled-in-Bond Bourbon stands out for its exceptionally high wheat content—24% of its mash bill—which replaces the traditional rye to create a distinctly softer, smoother profile than conventional bourbons. This Kentucky straight bourbon is aged 5-6 years and bottled at 100 proof under government supervision, delivering a complex flavor experience marked by caramel, vanilla, toffee, and dark fruits, with a long, sweet finish that rewards both newcomers and experienced bourbon enthusiasts. What makes it truly special is that Wilderness Trail was the first to release a bottled-in-bond wheated sweet mash bourbon since Prohibition, establishing itself as a modern classic through meticulous craftsmanship and a proprietary production process that maximizes flavor development during aging. Wilderness Trail Wheated Bottled-in-Bond Bourbon is crafted with a high-wheat mash bill of 64% corn, 24% wheat, and 12% malted barley, using proprietary yeast strains and a pioneering sweet mash fermentation process with all fresh ingredients—no sour mash backset. This small-batch expression adheres to strict Bottled-in-Bond standards: distilled in a single season on-site, aged 5-6 years in bonded warehouses, and bottled at exactly 100 proof using their proprietary infusion mashing and chemical-free steam for optimal grain flavor. Inviting aromas of vanilla, caramel, and butterscotch mingle with ripe stone fruit and subtle baking spices. On the palate, expect a soft, rich profile with sweet nutty notes, layered caramel, and hints of oak and barrel char. The finish lingers with a grain-forward softness, warm spice, and gentle oak influence. This bourbon stands out with Kentucky's highest wheat ratios for an exceptionally soft, nuanced character, combined with modern science like sweet mash and infusion mashing that maximizes flavor without degradation. Small batches of 20 barrels or less, aged in premium cooper-select barrels with 18-month air-dried staves, ensure precision and consistency under Bottled-in-Bond rigor. Savor it neat or on the rocks to highlight its silky texture and layered sweetness; a splash of water unlocks deeper fruit and spice notes. Perfect for sipping by the fire or pairing with rich desserts like pecan pie. Frequently Asked Questions What is Wilderness Trail Wheated Bottled in Bond Bourbon?
