Wild Turkey 101 Bourbon 375ML is a 101-proof (50.5% ABV) Kentucky straight bourbon whiskey in a 375ml bottle, long regarded as one of the most dependable pours in American whiskey. It earned 92 points from the Ultimate Spirits Challenge and a Gold Medal at the International Wine & Spirits Competition, underscoring its reputation as a benchmark high-proof bourbon. Quick Facts: ABV: 50.5% (101 Proof)  |  Origin: Lawrenceburg, Kentucky  |  Kentucky Straight Bourbon  |  Distillery: Wild Turkey Distillery Production & Heritage The Wild Turkey Distillery in Lawrenceburg, Kentucky has been producing bourbon since the mid-19th century and is currently owned by Campari Group. Wild Turkey 101 is double-distilled through a traditional column still and copper doubler, then aged in new American white oak barrels with a heavy #4 "alligator" char — the deepest char level available. The mashbill runs 75% corn, 13% rye, and 12% malted barley, giving this expression more rye kick than many competitors. One critical detail sets it apart: the bourbon exits the barrel at approximately 109 proof and is only slightly diluted to reach the 101-proof bottling strength, meaning the liquid remains remarkably close to its barrel character. Tasting Notes Aroma: Fresh cream and warm buttered toast greet the nose first, followed by pecan pie and clove. Underneath, there is a current of vanilla and caramel sweetness that deepens as the glass opens up. Taste: The entry is sweet with immediate vanilla and toffee, then the high rye asserts itself at mid-palate with nutmeg, cinnamon, and a touch of orange zest. At full development, milk chocolate truffle, pecans, and creamy toffee create a layered, full-bodied mouthfeel that punches well above its price tier. Finish: Long and warming with a gentle chili-pepper heat that lingers alongside maple, dried orange peel, and clove. A pleasant drying quality keeps the finish clean rather than cloying. How to Drink Wild Turkey 101 At 101 proof, this bourbon stands up beautifully neat or with a single large ice cube, which opens the sweeter caramel and vanilla notes without drowning the rye spice. Its robust proof and bold flavor also make it one of the most versatile cocktail bourbons available. An Old Fashioned benefits from the heavy char-driven caramel and clove notes, which hold their own against bitters and sugar. A Whiskey Sour works exceptionally well because the 101-proof backbone cuts through citrus without losing complexity. And a Kentucky Mule gains extra depth from the rye-forward spice, pairing naturally with ginger beer's heat.
