PowWow Wild Berry Coneflower

PowWow Wild Berry Coneflower (Echinacea purpurea 'PAS702917')PowWow Wild Berry Coneflower brings bold, saturated color to sunny gardens with large rose-purple blooms on a compact, sturdy plant that fits beautifully into borders, containers, and pollinator plantings. Its shorter, fuller habit makes it especially useful where you want the classic presence of coneflower without the height or looseness of older seed-grown forms. This variety is valued for blooming heavily and early, giving the garden a longer stretch of summer color with very little effort. It is an excellent choice for adding strong flower impact, wildlife value, and dependable structure to sunny landscapes. Distinctive FeaturesThis compact selection produces large rose-purple to deep pink-purple flowers with prominent orange-brown central cones, creating a bright and high-contrast display from early summer onward. The blooms are carried on stiff, branched stems above dark green foliage, and the plant forms a stocky, upright clump that stays neat in the garden. It typically matures about 18 to 24 inches tall and 12 to 18 inches wide, though some plantings may stretch closer to 30 inches in bloom. Flowering usually begins in early summer and continues through late summer, with additional bloom often extending into early fall. Growing Conditions Sun: Plant in full sun for best flowering, strongest stems, and the most compact habit, though light part shade is tolerated. Soil: Grow in average, dry to medium, well-drained soil and avoid poorly drained or consistently wet planting sites. Water: Water regularly during establishment, then provide low to moderate water, allowing the soil to dry somewhat between waterings. Zones: Hardy in USDA Zones 3 to 8. Habit: This variety has a compact, upright, clump-forming habit with sturdy, branched flowering stems. Bloom Season: Expect flowering from early summer into late summer, with possible continued bloom into early fall. Ideal Uses Focal Point: Use its vivid rose-purple blooms as a focal point in sunny borders where strong color can anchor and brighten surrounding plant combinations. Borders: Place it near the front or middle of perennial beds where its compact size and heavy bloom show can be appreciated up close. Containers: Grow it in large patio containers for a colorful, manageable display with strong summer impact. Pollinator Gardens: Add it to butterfly and pollinator plantings to support bees, butterflies, and other beneficial insects through the growing season. Mass Planting: Group several plants together for a stronger sweep of saturated color in sunny landscape beds. Low Maintenance Care Watering: Keep soil evenly moist during the first growing season, then water mainly during extended dry periods once established. Deadheading: Remove faded flowers to keep the plant tidy and encourage continued bloom, though it is often floriferous even without constant deadheading. Feeding: Apply compost or only light fertilizer in spring, since overly rich soil can reduce sturdy, compact growth. Cleanup: Cut stems back in late fall or late winter, or leave some seed heads standing briefly for added texture and bird interest. Drainage: Make sure the planting area drains well, especially through winter, to support long-term vigor and return. Why Choose PowWow Wild Berry Coneflower?
