Whiting Midge Saddle

At Feather Craft, we’re proud to offer Whiting Midge Saddles, an essential choice for serious fly tyers looking to craft the most precise, effective patterns for small flies. These saddles are specifically engineered for tying midges and other tiny dry flies in the #18 down to #24 (and smaller) size range. Their exceptional feather density, supple stems, and ultra-consistent barb count make them stand out as the gold standard for midge hackle. Whether you’re tying for tailwaters, spring creeks, or any environment where small flies reign supreme, these saddles deliver flawless performance. Whiting Midge Saddles come in two formats to suit your needs and budget: whole saddles and half saddles. Whole saddles provide the best value for volume tyers, offering hundreds of feathers and potentially thousands of flies from a single pelt. They are ideal for those tying commercially or preparing for a heavy season on the water. On the other hand, half saddles are a cost-effective option that still deliver ample tying potential—perfect for hobbyists or anyone looking to stock a range of small sizes without the commitment of a full pelt. We offer these saddles in Silver Grade and Bronze Grade, representing tiers of feather quality and quantity. Silver Grade saddles feature longer, more uniform feathers and denser barb distribution, providing even greater consistency across multiple sizes and fly patterns. These are highly sought after by discriminating tyers. Bronze Grade saddles still provide premium Whiting quality but with slightly shorter or less uniform feathers—an excellent option for those who want high performance without the top-tier price. At Feather Craft, we’ve chosen to stock only the best midge hackle for our customers because we understand that quality matters when tying tiny flies. Whiting Midge Saddles are trusted by pros and passionate hobbyists alike, and once you tie with them, you’ll see why.
