Whitehaven Sauvignon Blanc 2024 750ml

Terroir Whitehaven’s Sauvignon Blanc is sourced from select vineyards across Marlborough, New Zealand’s most celebrated region for the variety. The vineyards span both the Wairau and Awatere Valleys, areas defined by strong maritime influence, long daylight hours, and cooling coastal winds that preserve freshness and aromatic intensity. Marlborough’s climate allows Sauvignon Blanc to develop its signature exuberance while retaining crisp natural acidity. The soils are predominantly alluvial with gravel, sand, and silt, deposited by ancient river systems. These free-draining soils encourage deep root penetration and moderate vine vigor, concentrating flavor while maintaining precision. The 2024 vintage benefited from a steady, temperate growing season that allowed for even ripening and excellent flavor development, producing fruit with clarity, balance, and vibrant aromatic lift. Winemaking & Technical Notes The winemaking approach at Whitehaven is focused on purity, freshness, and expressive varietal character. Grapes are harvested at night or in the early morning to preserve aromatic compounds and acidity. Fermentation takes place in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks, ensuring that the wine retains its bright fruit profile and clean lines. A brief period on fine lees adds subtle texture and depth without compromising the wine’s crisp character. The wine is bottled early to lock in freshness, with minimal intervention throughout the process. This precise, modern approach allows the vineyards and vintage to define the wine rather than overt winemaking influence. Tasting Notes The 2024 Whitehaven Sauvignon Blanc is immediately vibrant and aromatic. The nose bursts with lime zest, grapefruit, and passionfruit, layered with notes of gooseberry, fresh-cut herbs, and a hint of white floral lift. There is a palpable sense of energy and clarity, with aromatics that feel precise rather than overtly tropical. On the palate, the wine is light to medium-bodied and driven by bright acidity. Flavors of citrus, green apple, and ripe kiwi unfold with refreshing intensity, balanced by a subtle mineral undertone that adds structure and length. The texture is crisp and focused, with a clean, linear profile that highlights Marlborough’s signature freshness without veering into excess. The finish is lively and refreshing, lingering with citrus peel, saline notes, and a faint herbal snap that invites another sip. The overall impression is one of balance and poise—expressive yet refined. Food Pairing & Service Whitehaven Sauvignon Blanc 2024 is exceptionally versatile and shines alongside fresh, vibrant dishes. It pairs beautifully with oysters, ceviche, grilled shrimp, and seared scallops, where its acidity and citrus-driven profile complement briny and delicate flavors. Herb-forward dishes such as goat cheese salads, asparagus, or dishes finished with fresh herbs are natural matches. It also works well with light poultry preparations, sushi, and spicy cuisines, where its brightness refreshes the palate. Serve well chilled at 45–48°F (7–9°C) in a white wine glass to emphasize aromatics and precision. Designed for near-term enjoyment, this wine is best enjoyed young while its freshness and aromatic intensity are at their peak.
