Planting & Care 1. Planting: Choose a well-drained location with full sun or partial shade. Dig a hole twice as wide and just as deep as the root ball. Place the plant in the hole, ensuring that the top of the root ball is level with the soil surface. Backfill with soil and water thoroughly. Backfill with a mix of native soil and compost. Spread a layer of bark mulch over the soil to help conserve moisture, insulate roots, and suppress weeds. Water thoroughly. 2. Watering: Water regularly during the first two growing seasons to establish deep roots. Once established, the shrub is drought-tolerant but will thrive with consistent moisture. Water during prolonged dry spells, especially in summer. 3. Pruning: Minimal pruning is needed to maintain shape, typically in late winter or early spring. Remove any dead or damaged branches and thin out crowded areas to enhance air circulation and overall health. 4. Fertilizing: Apply a balanced fertilizer in spring to encourage healthy growth. Avoid over-fertilizing, which can lead to excessive foliage at the expense of root development.
