Where Are We Going

“Where Are We Going”. 56x36-inch Created in 2025.  Black ink on street canvas. For sale. Description Drawn in black marker on reclaimed cardboard, this horizontal composition presents a solitary, wide-eyed figure in motion—part wanderer, part observer—stepping forward while pointing ahead. Below, a procession of small, identical creatures moves in formation, echoing the figure’s direction yet lacking individuality. The oversized scale of the central character contrasts sharply with the repeating figures, creating a quiet but unsettling sense of purpose and uncertainty. Artistic Review This piece reads like a visual question rather than a statement. The exaggerated limbs, soft facial expression, and deliberate pointing gesture suggest leadership, confusion, or blind momentum—all at once. The repetition of the smaller figures adds rhythm and narrative weight, hinting at conformity, followership, or instinctual movement. The cardboard’s creases and seams become compositional elements, subtly reinforcing the idea of fractured direction and imperfect paths. Critique What makes this work compelling is its restraint and clarity. The artist avoids clutter, allowing scale, repetition, and gesture to carry the meaning. The raw cardboard surface enhances the existential tone—unfinished, disposable, and honest. The tension between the lone thinker and the many followers invites interpretation without forcing it. This is outsider storytelling at its strongest: simple lines, deep questions, and no easy answers. Original, one-of-a-kind artwork. Hand-drawn on reclaimed cardboard and signed by the artist.
