When the Storm Breaks

On September 26, 2024, Hurricane Helen slammed into Florida- the strongest storm in recorded history to hit the Big Bend region. AS the 350-mile-wide tempest headed north, it dumped an estimated 40 trillion gallons of rain, causing landslides, unprecedented flooding, and death. In all, 251 people lost their lives. After the storm, author and photographer Shawn Martin collected ten remarkable stories and captured hundreds of sobering photos. Read about husbands and wives getting separated, a house floating away, and a daughter saving her wheelchair-bound father. Marvel at miracles as trees fall on bedrooms, people narrowly escape with their lives- and an angel saves a girl from drowning. When the Storm Breaks takes us into the devastation to experience both the panic of rising floodwaters and the bravery of heroic rescue efforts. Above all, we see God using ordinary people to restore hope and healing to the suffering.
