When I Read I always Fall Asleep

Kate Florence’s latest collection is a celebration of togetherness, honoring the intimate rituals and timeless bonds that connect people to one another and to animals. Across these paintings, scenes of shared meals, moments of laughter, and the quiet companionship of animals unfold with tenderness and warmth. Grounded in storytelling, Florence’s paintings emphasize the beauty of connection in its most honest form. Figures are expressive, gestures intentional, and every scene carries the weight of lived experience. Nostalgia runs throughout the work, not as longing for the past but as an appreciation for the rituals that shape our lives: the sharing of bread, the gathering of community, the comfort of lingering conversation. Ultimately, these paintings are meditations on belonging: to a table, to a group, to the land itself. They invite viewers to slow down, to cherish the ordinary, and to remember the profound joy of connection.
