Wheels Mfg BSA30 Bottom Bracket 68mm English Thread for 30mm Spindle Cranks (104mm Min Spindle)

Run modern 30mm spindle cranksets in a standard threaded frame—without switching to press-fit. The Wheels Manufacturing BSA30 bottom bracket is the clean solution for riders who want to install 30mm spindle cranksets into a traditional 68mm English-threaded (BSA) frame. Precision machined in the USA with sealed ABEC-3 bearings, this bottom bracket gives you the stiffness and performance of 30mm cranks with the reliability and serviceability of threaded systems. Key Functional Details Allows 30mm spindle cranksets to fit standard BSA threaded frames Designed for 68mm English-threaded (BSA) bottom bracket shells Requires minimum 104mm spindle length (critical for proper fit) ABEC-3 sealed cartridge bearings for smooth, long-lasting performance Precision machined alloy cups for lightweight durability Threaded system reduces creaking compared to press-fit setups Technical Specifications Shell Width: 68mm Threading: English (BSA) Spindle Compatibility: 30mm Minimum Spindle Length: 104mm Bearing Type: Sealed ABEC-3 cartridge Cup Material: Alloy Weight: 98g Color: Black Compatibility & Technical Notes Fits 68mm English-threaded (BSA) frames only Compatible with 30mm spindle cranksets (Race Face, Easton, Rotor, some SRAM) Critical: Crank spindle must be at least 104mm long (measured without spacers) Will NOT work with shorter spindle cranksets (common mistake) Not compatible with Shimano 24mm (Hollowtech II) or SRAM DUB cranksets Ideal for converting from square taper, GXP, or external 24mm systems to 30mm Service / Ownership Context Excellent upgrade when moving to lighter, stiffer 30mm cranksets Threaded installation reduces long-term maintenance vs press-fit systems Bearings are serviceable/replacement-friendly compared to cheaper units Install requires proper bottom bracket tool and torque spec Common shop install due to spindle compatibility confusion Fit & Use Signals Good Fit: Riders upgrading to 30mm cranksets on BSA frames, gravel and road performance builds, creak-free conversions Not A Fit: Cranks with spindle length under 104mm, Shimano 24mm systems, SRAM DUB setups, press-fit frames Use Case: Performance upgrade, drivetrain conversion, threaded alternative to press-fit 30mm systems 1. Real Mechanic Insights - The 104mm spindle requirement is where most installs fail—customers assume all 30mm cranks fit, they don’t - Always measure spindle WITHOUT spacers or preload adjusters - Threaded BSA30 setups are significantly quieter than BB30/PF30 press-fit equivalents - Bearing life depends heavily on crank preload setup—too tight kills bearings fast 2. Typical Customer Searches - “30mm crank in BSA frame” - “BB30 to BSA adapter bottom bracket” - “why does my BB30 creak” - “can I run 30mm crank in threaded frame” 3. Often Replacing - Press-fit BB30/PF30 systems due to creaking - Worn GXP or Hollowtech II bottom brackets during crank upgrades - Cheap adapters that cause misalignment 4. Good Fit / Not A Fit - Good Fit: Race Face Cinch 30mm, Easton EC90, Rotor 3D+ (with correct spindle length) - Not A Fit: SRAM DUB, Shimano Hollowtech II, short spindle BB30 cranks 5. Recommended Shop Pairings - Bottom bracket install service - Crankset upgrade (30mm spindle systems) - New chain + cassette for drivetrain refresh - Frame thread chasing/facing for optimal alignment 6. What Customers Compare This To - Praxis Works BSA30 bottom brackets - SRAM DUB threaded systems - BB30/PF30 press-fit setups (this is often the upgrade away from those)
