Mill City Wheat Beer Extract Variety Pack

Celebrate Mill City Heritage with Three Iconic Wheat Beer Styles 140 years ago, Minneapolis became the “Mill City” when more flour was made here than in any other city in the world. At peak production, the Mississippi River powered more than 20 flour mills, turning millions of bushels of wheat from the western plains into flour for growing national and global markets. The city grew up around these mills, and although they’re long gone, their legacy continues to shape Minneapolis today. We’re celebrating that hometown heritage the Northern Brewer way, with the Mill City Wheat Beer Variety Pack! Three tried and true favorites from our catalog showcase what wheat has to offer in three distinct styles, perfect after mowing the lawn, at a backyard barbecue, or on a sunny afternoon. American Wheat Beer A familiar style made popular by microbreweries all over the US. Like their German cousins, American wheat beers feature large proportions of malted wheat in the grain bill and are naturally cloudy in appearance. Unlike German Weizenbiers, though, American wheat beers have a bit more hop character and are fermented with a milder-tasting yeast, resulting in a more clean, neutral finish. Wyeast’s US Hefeweizen strain makes for a spritzy, refreshing warm-weather crowd-pleaser Instructions Bavarian Hefeweizen Extremely popular in its homeland of southern Germany, Weizenbier (wheat beer) is now being enjoyed all over the world. Medium-bodied, refreshing, and tolerant of high fermentation temperatures, weizen is a fantastic summer brew. Northern Brewer’s Hefe-Weizen is 100% traditional— cloudy, tart, a bit sour, with a phenolic and banana-clove character imparted by the yeast. To serve authentically, “mit hefe” (with yeast), pour almost all the beer into a tall glass, swirl the bottle, and add the rest. Instructions Dunkelweizen Its name means “dark wheat,” and that’s just what it is. An amber-colored version of a German hefeweizen, Dunkelweizen has the same spicy yeast and creamy wheat character of its pale counterpart, but with as much rich maltiness as a dark Bavarian lager. This kit produces an ale with a hazy mahogany color, medium-full body, and spicy, bready aromas and flavors.
