Wheat, Beardless (lb)

Beardless Wheat (Triticum aestivum) is a versatile small grain crop prized for its smooth, awnless seed heads, making it easier to handle during harvest and safer for forage use. This hard red spring wheat is valued not only for grain production but also for its ability to provide quick cover, high-quality forage, and excellent hay. Its adaptability makes it a reliable choice for both home gardeners and small-scale farmers seeking a multipurpose cereal crop. With strong disease resistance to stripe rust and leaf rust, beardless wheat offers consistent performance throughout the season. Its “stay green” trait and durable straw strength ensure healthy growth, while its medium-late maturity supports dependable yields. Thriving in full sun and well-drained soil, it can be planted in fall or winter in milder climates, and in spring in colder regions. The result is a productive, resilient crop that contributes to soil health while delivering nutritious grain for cooking and baking. Grow beardless wheat for flour milling, forage, or as a soil-building cover crop to enrich your fields.
