What Does a Screen Mean?

Marvin the Bean, born June 13, sees his life captured on a screen. After viewing screens that are green, lean, small, big, and each size in between, he begins to wonder, "What does a screen mean?" Overuse of screen time has reached near-epidemic levels. Kids are surrounded by screens from birth, and making sense of it all can be confusing for parents. Seeing his own child crave screen time, Tim Koerner decided to create this book to help. With bright colors and friendly characters, What Does a Screen Mean? engages children and caregivers alike in the conversation about screen time without lecturing or preaching specific approaches.   Tim Koerner is a first-time author, two-time dad, and third-rate cook based in Lino Lakes, Minnesota. A do-gooder at heart, Tim worked for twelve years across three nonprofits (the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, Big Brothers Big Sisters, and the Open Door Pantry) before landing in the community services branch of local government in 2018. With an MBA focused in entrepreneurship, Tim's first idea brought to life (inspired by his son, Lewis!) is this book, with plans for many more projects to come! A cystic fibrosis survivor himself, Tim is supported and tolerated by his wife, Ashlee, sons Lewis and Arlo, and a slew of family and friends. Kevin Cannon is a cartoonist and illustrator. His cartoon maps have appeared in the Village Voice, Minnesota Monthly, and the Star Tribune, and he is the 2021 Minnesota State Fair Commemorative Artist. Kevin has illustrated numerous children's books, including Ben and Lucy Play Pond Hockey and Breathe, Ollie! He lives in Minneapolis with his beautiful wife, Maggie, and adorable son, Ulysses.   "Reading 'What Does a Screen Mean?' with my kids has made the conversation about technology and screen time so much easier. It's accessible, not at all preachy, fantastically written, and beautifully illustrated. This book makes a wonderful--and needed--addition to the home!" - Patrick Kirby, author of Fundraise Awesomer!
