Whammy Weenie

Here are the Cliff Notes. . .in the early 80's Bells Supermarket creates the "Whammy Weenie" - a Sunday football noisemaker that was to be shook whenever the opposition had the ball. . .the "ultimate hex" (think "Terrible Towel in Pittsburgh). Yes, it was green; yes it was a wiener; yes it rattled.  About three games into the season, the Weenie is deemed toxic, testing at over 300% of the allowable levels for lead.  Weenies were recalled, Weenies were destroyed, and now the Whammy Weenie is sought by the diehard collectors of Buffalo sports ephemera.  Great story now. . .horrible marketing campaign then.  "Shake your Whammy Weenie!"
