Weston Gnarnia Carbon Splitboard

Lightweight Big-Mountain Freeride Splitboard Weston Gnarnia Carbon Splitboard The Weston Gnarnia Carbon Splitboard is a lightweight big-mountain splitboard for riders whose objectives are steep and long rather than deep. A tapered directional shape running 310-262-301 mm at 162 cm carries 9 mm of taper, half what the Backwoods runs, and a four-radius sidecut tightening to 7.8 m underfoot holds a line through a turn instead of releasing early. At 2,930 g per board in a 162, on a paulownia and poplar core with vertical aluminum stringers under a carbon layup, the Gnarnia Carbon is built for the day that starts with 4,000 ft of climbing and ends on a technical descent. Expert Review Ratings and sizing guidance verified against manufacturer specifications. Is This the Right Splitboard for You? Best For Riders chasing steep, technical descents and big vertical who want a composed, stable board at speed and are willing to give up some float to get it at 2,930 g per board in a 162. Consider Another Splitboard If Your season is mostly storm days and tight trees, or you want maximum float. At 9 mm of taper the Gnarnia Carbon sinks its tail less than a dedicated powder shape. The sidecut runs four radii rather than three, 10 m at the nose through 8.1 and 7.8 m underfoot to 9.1 m at the tail on the 162, so the edge engages progressively instead of grabbing at the contact point. Vertical aluminum stringers through the paulownia core add torsional stiffness and damping without weight, which is what keeps a 2,930 g board composed at speed rather than nervous. Full perimeter UHMW sidewalls wrap the whole board rather than just the running length, which matters on the rock-strewn transitions and boot-pack scrambles that come with technical objectives. Best Uses Steep, technical descents and big alpine lines Dawn patrol and high-vertical days Long tours where the descent is the objective Higher-speed riding on open faces Riders 105 lbs and up across the four sizes Splitboard Selection Advice The Gnarnia Carbon has the widest rider range of the Weston splits CCBB stocks, and the sizes are genuinely distinct rather than incremental. The 151 is rated 105 to 165 lbs on a 24.6 cm waist to a US 8 boot, the 158 is 125 to 185 lbs at 25.6 cm to a US 10, the 162 is 145 to 205 lbs at 26.2 cm to a US 12, and the 162W shares that length at 27.3 cm for boots to US 14. The 162 and 162W ride the same outline and effective edge, so choose between them purely on boot clearance. One setup detail is easy to miss: the setback is not the same across the run. The 151 is built with 10 mm of setback and the 158, 162 and 162W with 20 mm. A rider moving up from the 151 inherits an extra centimetre of setback in the shape itself, so the stance does not need shifting back to match. Skins are pre-cut and sold separately, and every size takes a different skin: Splitboard Skin 1 for the 151, Skin 3 for the 158, Skin 4 for the 162 and Skin 5 for the 162W. The Weston Backwoods Carbon Splitboard runs 18 mm of taper for float in trees and deep snow; the Gnarnia Carbon runs 9 mm and holds its tail through a turn. Riders whose season is storm days take the Backwoods Carbon, and riders whose season is steep objectives take the Gnarnia Carbon. Shop the Weston Backwoods Carbon Splitboard Gnarnia Carbon vs. Jones Howler Splitboard Both are built for steep terrain from opposite directions. The Jones Howler Splitboard uses full tip-to-tail camber for pop and edge authority at 3,000 g per board in a 158. The Gnarnia Carbon uses a rockered nose with camber underfoot at 2,930 g in a 162, which is more forgiving when the snow turns variable mid-line. Weight is close, so the choice comes down to camber preference. Shop the Jones Howler Splitboard Gnarnia Carbon vs. Weston Gnarnia Splitboard Same outline, different build. The standard Weston Gnarnia Splitboard uses a poplar and paulownia core with triax glass and tip-to-tail carbon stringers at a lower price; the Gnarnia Carbon moves to a full carbon layup over paulownia with vertical aluminum stringers. Shape, taper and setback carry across, so the decision is weight against budget. Shop the Weston Gnarnia Splitboard Common Questions Who should buy the Weston Gnarnia Carbon Splitboard? The Weston Gnarnia Carbon Splitboard suits riders whose objectives are steep and long rather than deep. Nine millimetres of taper with camber underfoot and a carbon layup at 2,930 g per board in a 162 makes the Gnarnia Carbon a big-mountain and high-vertical board, composed at speed and light enough for a dawn patrol lap. What bindings and skins work with the Weston Gnarnia Carbon Splitboard? The Weston Gnarnia Carbon Splitboard takes splitboard-specific bindings that mount to a puck interface and transition between tour and ride mode. Standard solid-board snowboard bindings are not compatible. Skins are pre-cut and sold separately, and every size takes a different one: Splitboard Skin 1 for the 151, Skin 3 for the 158, Skin 4 for the 162 and Skin 5 for the 162W. Skins attach through tip holes and tail notches. Confirm the puck pattern of your binding system against the board before mounting. Is the setback the same on every Gnarnia Carbon size? No, and it is worth knowing before you mount. The 151 is built with 10 mm of setback while the 158, 162 and 162W all carry 20 mm. That extra centimetre is in the shape rather than the inserts, so a rider moving up from the 151 should not also shift the stance back to compensate. Taper stays at 9 mm across the whole run. How do the 162 and 162W differ? Only in width. The Weston Gnarnia Carbon Splitboard 162 and 162W share a 125 cm effective edge, the same four-radius sidecut and the same 9 mm taper and 20 mm setback. The 162 runs a 26.2 cm waist for boots up to US 12, and the 162W a 27.3 cm waist for boots up to US 14, at 170 g more per board. Choose on boot clearance, not on how you want the board to ride. What does a four-radius sidecut do? The Weston Gnarnia Carbon Splitboard blends four radii along each edge rather than one. On the 162 the edge runs 10 m at the nose, 8.1 and 7.8 m through the middle and 9.1 m at the tail. The tighter middle sections make the board initiate a turn quickly for a 125 cm effective edge, and the longer radii at each end let the edge engage and release progressively instead of hooking. How much does the Weston Gnarnia Carbon Splitboard weigh? The Weston Gnarnia Carbon Splitboard weighs 2,730 g per board at 151 cm, 2,800 g at 158 cm, 2,930 g at 162 cm and 3,100 g at 162W. That places it among the lighter big-mountain splits, and within 100 g of the Backwoods Carbon despite a very different shape. Any weight quoted without a size attached is incomplete. Our Verdict The Weston Gnarnia Carbon Splitboard is the Weston split to pick when the descent is steep rather than deep. A tapered directional outline at 310-262-301 mm carries 9 mm of taper, half the Backwoods figure, and a four-radius sidecut tightening to 7.8 m underfoot lets the edge engage progressively and hold through the turn. Vertical aluminum stringers in a paulownia core under a carbon layup keep the board composed at speed at 2,930 g per board in a 162. Note the setback changes with size, 10 mm on the 151 and 20 mm above it, and choose between the 162 and 162W on boot clearance alone.
