Wes's Kit

Wes Wilson has recovered a lot of vehicles out of a lot of bad spots, and he sees the same 8 mistakes over and over. Half of them are habits: rushing, leaving traction control on, skipping 4-low, letting people stand too close. No kit fixes those. That's on the driver. But one mistake comes up more than almost any other: an open connection. A hook, a bare strap end, anything that isn't a proper closed loop on both ends. It's an easy thing to skip when you're just getting into recoveries and don't know what you don't know yet. That's exactly why Wes put together this kit. Four pieces that give you a real closed-loop setup, sized and rated right, so you're not guessing on the one mistake that causes the most damage. 01 — Why a Closed Loop Matters "Invest in the right equipment," Wes says. A hitch shackle, D-ring, or soft shackle on both ends gives you a closed loop that's safer and stronger than winging it with an open hook. That's the difference between a recovery that goes smooth and a strap popping off mid-pull. 02 — What's Actually in the System Four pieces, nothing extra: a hitch shackle and soft shackle to close both ends of your connection, a tow strap for the pull itself, and an axle strap so you've got a solid, rated attachment point on the vehicle. That's the whole closed-loop system, beginning to end. 03 — Why It's Sized for Beginners This isn't the everything-kit for someone who recovers vehicles every weekend. It's the starting point Wes actually recommends: affordable, simple, and covering the one mistake, open connections, that causes the most damage for people just getting into this.
