Chambers One of the best examples of Victorian-gothic horror, The King in Yellow is a collection of ten inter-related stories and a sequence of poems that explore the despair and madness that afflict characters who come into contact with the forbidden play. Published in 1895, The King in Yellow by Robert W. Chambers has inspired other horror-genre writers including H. P. Lovecraft, A. Merritt, Robert E. Howard, and other classic weird fiction writers.   The House on the Borderland by William Hope Hodgson The House on the Borderland, first published in 1908, begins with two friends on a fishing trip who, near a small Irish village, come upon a ruined house overlooking a monstrous chasm. In the ruins, they find the manuscript that forms the book. The author of this manuscript had lived in the house with his sister and his dog, Pepper. The house is besieged by attacks from horrible “Swine-Things,” but the true mysteries lie in the house itself and the inexplicable and transcendent experiences the manuscript’s author undergoes within it, being incorporeally transported across aeons to the far future and into the infinite. This is the book about which H. P. Lovecraft coined the term “cosmic horror.” Many writers cite Hodgson as an influence, including Gene Wolfe, China Miéville, and Brian Keene.   The King of Elfland's Daughter by Lord Dunsany The King of Elfland's Daughter by Lord Dunsany is a lyrical and enchanting tale, widely considered to be one of the most beautiful works of fantasy in the English language. The book would inspire future titans of fantasy and horror including Tolkien, Lovecraft, and Gaiman. Alveric, a mortal man, armed with a sword forged through witchcraft, embarks on a quest to win the heart of Lirazel, the ethereal daughter of the Elfin King. As he journeys between the mundane world and magical lands, Alveric grapples with the allure of enchantment and the stark realities of human existence. Dunsany's prose is richly poetic, weaving together themes of love, longing, and the bittersweet nature of dreams. The narrative unfolds with a sense of wonder and nostalgia, showcasing the profound connections between the realms of magic and reality.   For further information of each book, please follow the links below: The King in Yellow The House on The Borderland The King of Elfland's Daughter
