Weingut Steindorfer Golden Cut 2021 750ml

Terroir Weingut Steindorfer is based in Wagram, one of Austria’s most distinctive white-wine regions, renowned for its deep loess soils layered over ancient marine deposits. These soils are particularly well suited to Grüner Veltliner and expressive white wines, contributing a signature combination of breadth, spice, and fine-grained texture. The vineyards benefit from gentle slopes and excellent sun exposure, while cooling influences from the Danube and nearby forests help preserve freshness and aromatic clarity. The 2021 vintage in Wagram was marked by a longer, more moderate growing season, allowing for extended hang time and excellent phenolic ripeness without sacrificing acidity. This balance is clearly reflected in the Golden Cut, which shows both generosity and restraint, marrying ripe fruit expression with structural precision. Winemaking & Technical Notes The Golden Cut is crafted with a minimalist, terroir-driven philosophy. Grapes are harvested at optimal ripeness and fermented with care to retain purity and texture. Fermentation takes place primarily in stainless steel, with portions often seeing neutral vessels to build complexity without imparting overt oak character. Gentle lees contact is employed to enhance mouthfeel and integration, lending the wine a subtle creamy nuance while maintaining freshness. The winemaking approach favors transparency over manipulation, allowing the character of the loess soils and the vintage to remain at the forefront. The result is a wine that is expressive and layered, yet clean, focused, and unmistakably Austrian in its balance. Tasting Notes The 2021 Golden Cut opens with an inviting aromatic profile of ripe pear, golden apple, and stone fruit, accented by hints of honeyed citrus, white pepper, and dried herbs. Subtle floral tones and a faint mineral undertone add complexity and depth to the nose. On the palate, the wine is generous yet composed, offering a rounded mid-palate supported by bright, well-integrated acidity. Flavors of baked apple, lemon curd, and yellow plum unfold alongside savory spice and a gentle earthy note that reflects its loess-driven origins. The texture is supple and layered, with a quiet richness that never feels heavy. The finish is long and harmonious, tapering into lingering spice, orchard fruit, and a soft mineral echo that underscores the wine’s sense of place. Food Pairing & Service Weingut Steindorfer Golden Cut 2021 is an exceptionally versatile table wine. It pairs beautifully with roast poultry, pork dishes, Wiener schnitzel, mushroom-based cuisine, and richer vegetable preparations. Its texture and spice also complement mildly creamy sauces and dishes featuring herbs or root vegetables. Serve at 48–52°F (9–11°C) to highlight both its aromatic complexity and textural depth. While enjoyable now, this wine has the structure to evolve gracefully over the next 5–7 years, developing additional savory nuance and integration with time.
