Weathered Rose Paper Mache Basket

A barrel-shaped paper mache basket covered in a pattern of pink roses, soft peach blooms and green leaves on a cream ground, in the faded, cottage-garden palette that designers love. The floral paper wraps the body and rolls over the rim, and the whole piece carries the soft, sun-bleached charm of something that has lived a long, well-used life. This is a piece with real wear, and we want you to see it clearly. One side has severe surface loss where the floral paper and several layers of the paper mache have worn away, exposing older layers of printed paper beneath, while the inside is raw, rough and stained. For the right buyer that is the appeal: a decorative, shabby-chic object with visible history. At 13" in diameter and 13" tall, it works as a cover for a plant pot, a holder for dried stems or branches, or a sculptural accent on a floor, shelf or table. The worn side can face the wall or turn outward as a feature. Specifications Era: Vintage Material: Paper mache Dimensions: 13" diameter x 13" H Color: Cream with pink roses and green leaves Details: Barrel-shaped body, floral paper surface, rolled rim Condition: Vintage; severe wear on one side with loss of layers exposing printed paper beneath; interior rough and stained Use: Decorative only; keep dry; not for water or soil This vintage paper mache basket measures 13 inches in diameter and 13 inches tall, covered in a pink rose and green leaf floral design on a cream ground. It has severe wear on one side with exposed paper layers and a rough interior. It is a decorative piece for dried stems, plant pot covers and shabby-chic styling, available from DE-COR in Pasadena with trade pricing for designers. Q: Can I put a plant or flowers in it? A: It is for decorative use and should stay dry. Paper mache does not tolerate water or damp soil, so use it for dried stems, branches or as a cover for a lightweight pot placed inside. Because of the wear on one side, lift it from the base, not by the rim. Q: How is a basket like this made? A: Paper mache is built by layering paper and paste over a form, then decorating the outside, here with a printed floral paper. Where the surface has worn away on this piece you can see the layers underneath, including older printed paper, which shows how it was constructed.  • **Please bear in mind that colors of products shown may vary slightly from their original color due to monitor display settings or photography studio.
