The GE Dryer Top Bearing supports the front of the drum and allows it to rotate smoothly inside the dryer cabinet during every cycle. It sits at the top front of the drum, reducing friction as the drum spins and keeping it properly aligned so clothes tumble evenly without the drum shifting or dragging against other components. GE dryer top bearings wear down over time from the constant rotation and heat exposure inside the dryer cabinet. Lint buildup, loss of lubrication, or simply years of normal use can cause the bearing to become rough or seize, putting extra strain on the drum motor and leading to noisy or unstable drum movement. Watch for these symptoms to help determine if the top bearing is the cause of your dryer trouble: - Squealing, squeaking, or high-pitched noise during the drying cycle - Grinding or scraping sound as the drum rotates - Drum wobbles or feels unsteady when turning by hand - Clothes taking longer to dry due to drum not turning freely - Burning smell caused by friction at the drum support point - Visible wear, cracking, or damage to the bearing when inspected
