The GE Microwave Magnetron is the core heating component in your microwave or Advantium oven, generating the microwave energy that cooks and heats food. It works by converting electrical energy into high-frequency microwave radiation, which causes water molecules in food to vibrate and produce heat. Without a functioning magnetron, the appliance cannot heat or cook food at all. Important Compatibility Note: Part number WB27X44106 is the current manufacturer-approved replacement for the following discontinued part number(s): WB27X32766. If your appliance documentation or old part uses any of these numbers, this is the correct, updated component for your repair. A GE microwave magnetron can fail from age, overheating due to running the microwave empty, or damage from arcing caused by metal objects or food buildup inside the cavity. Power surges, worn internal components, or a failing cooling fan that allows the magnetron to overheat can also shorten its lifespan. Watch for these symptoms to help determine if the magnetron needs to be replaced: - Microwave runs but food is not heating or cooking - Burning or unusual smell coming from inside the microwave during operation - Loud buzzing or humming noise while the microwave is running - Arcing, sparking, or flickering visible inside the microwave cavity - Microwave trips the circuit breaker or blows a fuse when in use - Microwave powers on and the turntable spins but no heat is produced - Food takes significantly longer than normal to heat evenly
