Wavetrac B18C Limited Slip Differential for Integra GS-R/Type R

That's an open differential doing exactly what open diffs do, sending power to the wheel with the least grip. The Wavetrac fixes it. It's a helical limited slip differential that keeps power going to the wheel that can actually use it, so your GS-R or Integra puts its power down instead of wasting it in a one-wheel burnout. What A Limited Slip Differential Actually Does Worth understanding plainly, because it's the whole reason to fit one. Your differential splits engine power between your two drive wheels and lets them turn at different speeds in corners. A standard open differential has a flaw: it always sends power to the wheel with the least resistance. So when you're accelerating hard in a corner and the inside wheel unloads, or you hit a patch with less grip, all the power goes to that spinning wheel and none to the one that's actually gripping. You get wheel spin, no forward drive, and a car that feels like it's fighting you. A limited slip differential (LSD) solves this by sending power to the wheel that has grip instead of the one that's spinning. When one wheel starts to slip, the LSD biases torque to the other wheel, so the car keeps driving forward rather than spinning one tire uselessly. What you feel is a car that launches harder, puts power down cleanly out of corners, and stays composed in the wet or on uneven surfaces. On a front-wheel-drive Honda with real power, an open diff costs you exactly when you're asking the most of the car, which is why an LSD is one of the most transformative handling upgrades you can make. Why Wavetrac Is Better Than A Standard LSD This is where the Wavetrac earns its reputation over other gear-type diffs. Most helical LSDs, including Torsen and Quaife-style units, have one weakness: when a wheel completely unloads or lifts (a common thing in hard cornering), they go quiet and behave like an open diff, just less often. The Wavetrac's patented wave technology solves that specifically. During those zero-load moments, the Wavetrac's cam device creates internal load that keeps drive on the gripping wheel rather than letting the unloaded one spin free. It engages automatically when the car needs it and backs off the rest of the time, so the car still drives normally around town, with the grip when you're pushing and none of the harshness when you're not. Fits The GS-R And Upgrades The Type R Worth knowing where each car stands. The GS-R came with an open differential, so fitting this Wavetrac is a genuine transformation, you're going from one-wheel-spin to real traction out of every corner. The Type R came with a helical LSD from the factory, which is a good diff, but the Wavetrac is a step up: its wave technology holds drive in the unloaded conditions where even the factory Type R diff can open up, and its construction handles more power. For a Type R being built past stock, it's the upgrade that keeps the diff from becoming the weak link. Built To Outlast The Car The engineering is genuinely modern, designed clean-sheet rather than adapted from an old design. The internal gears are high-strength 9310 alloy steel, the same grade used in serious motorsport, with tooth forms optimized for strength and better oil film retention than competitive designs. The diff body is machined from case-hardened steel billet, and every fastener is ARP, the world leader in high-strength fasteners. Particular attention went into the side gear and axle interface, the critical area when power climbs, putting maximum material thickness where the load concentrates. It's a gear diff, so there are no clutch packs to wear out and no fluid additives to chase, it's essentially maintenance-free and built to run the life of the car. And it's backed by a transferable Limited Lifetime Warranty, which tells you how confident Autotech Driveline is that it won't come back. What To Consider While You're In There An LSD installs into the transmission, which means the trans has to come apart, and that's the expensive, time-consuming part of the job. Since you're already there, a few things are worth doing at the same time rather than going back in later. Ring gear bolts. Your existing ring gear transfers to the Wavetrac, and it's best practice to use fresh ring gear bolts torqued to spec rather than reusing the old ones on a part that sees this much load. Transmission fluid. You'll be draining and refilling the transmission, so fresh transmission fluid goes back in. A quality fluid is cheap insurance on a freshly serviced gearbox, and unlike a clutch-type LSD, the Wavetrac needs no friction additive, so standard gear oil is fine. The clutch. If the transmission is out, the clutch is right there and accessible. If yours has miles on it, doing the clutch now saves pulling the trans again later, the labor is the costly part, and you've already paid it. Axles. The Wavetrac's side gears interface with your axles, and on a higher-power build the axles are the next link in the chain. If you're making the power that justifies an LSD, it's worth making sure your axles are up to it too. Doing these together while the transmission is apart is how you avoid paying the same labor twice. Installs Into Your Transmission Practical note on the job. The Wavetrac fits the OEM 4.60" ring gear inner diameter for these B18C transmissions, and it installs into your transmission case during a rebuild or transmission service, your existing ring gear bolts to it. It's not a bolt-on; it goes in when the transmission is apart, so it's the ideal thing to do during a rebuild or clutch job when the trans is already out. Who Should Grab This This is for the GS-R owner tired of spinning one wheel out of every corner, and for the Type R owner building past what the factory diff handles. It puts power to the wheel with grip, launches harder, and stays composed where an open diff gives up, with wave technology that holds drive even when a wheel unloads. Modern 9310 gears, ARP fasteners, maintenance-free, and a lifetime warranty. Fit it during your next transmission job and put the power down.
