Waterloo Prickly Pear & Rose Flavored Gin

Waterloo Prickly Pear & Rose Gin is a strikingly floral and fruit-accented American gin that reimagines classic gin character through the vibrant lens of prickly pear cactus fruit, rose petals, and hibiscus. At 47 % ABV (94 proof), it balances expressive aromatics with a lively profile, making it equally compelling neat, with tonic, or in creative gin cocktails—a spirited tribute to the Texas Hill Country where it’s crafted. Origins & Craftsmanship Crafted by Waterloo Gin Company in Austin, Texas, this expression embodies the brand’s New American style: traditional gin botanicals elevated with regional and unexpected ingredients that capture place and personality. It begins with Waterloo’s nine-botanical base, which typically includes juniper, citrus peel, lavender, pecan, and select spice and herbal notes, then layers in prickly pear fruit, rose petals, and hibiscus during distillation for added complexity. The result is a gin that feels at once familiar and refreshingly original.  Bottled at 94 proof (47 % ABV), the spirit displays both aromatic finesse and enough strength to stand up in cocktails without losing nuance—a versatility prized in contemporary gin expressions.  Critics Reviews There are no widely published professional critic scores from major spirits authorities (e.g., Whisky Advocate or The Spirits Business) for this specific flavored gin release as of now. However, press coverage and industry introductions describe it as a bold botanical addition to the Waterloo lineup, appealing for its balance of floral elegance and bright fruit character—qualities that are gaining attention in craft gin circles.  Tasting Profile Nose: A fragrant, floral bouquet opens with fresh rose petals and hibiscus, followed by soft prickly pear sweetness, hints of juniper, citrus zest, and a gentle herbal lift.  Palate: Medium-bodied and vivid, the palate showcases prickly pear fruit with a light berry-like sweetness, complemented by citrus brightness, floral spice, and traditional gin juniper backbone. Herbal earthiness from rose and hibiscus adds dimension without overwhelming.  Finish: Clean and slightly herbal, finishing with lingering floral notes and just a hint of fruit sweetness that makes it refreshing and approachable.  Quick Overview Category Details ABV / Proof ~47 % / 94 proof Origin / Region Austin, Texas, USA Production Small-batch American gin with additional botanicals Flavor Profile Prickly pear fruit, rose petals, hibiscus, citrus, juniper Style / Identity Floral & fruit-accented craft gin with bold botanical character Cocktail Recipes Prickly Pear & Rose Gin & Tonic 2 oz Waterloo Prickly Pear & Rose Gin 4–5 oz premium tonic water Garnish: Grapefruit twist & edible rose petal Method: Build over ice in a highball glass; stir gently to integrate botanicals.
