It thrives in average, well-drained soil and tolerates both heat and urban conditions with ease. Combine it with spring-flowering bulbs or evergreens to highlight its color shifts through the year. Because the branches carry small thorns, it can also serve as a beautiful and effective privacy or wildlife barrier. A light pruning in late winter will help maintain shape and encourage strong blooms.
