Washing Machine Cleaning Tablets for Odor, Pet Hair and Hard Water

Your washer is the dirtiest thing in your house. (Yes, even dirtier than the gym sock at the bottom of the hamper.) Behind every load of fresh, clean laundry is a washing machine quietly accumulating six months of trapped pet hair, hard-water mineral buildup, detergent residue, mold, and that mystery musty smell that lives inside the rubber gasket. Most washers haven't been cleaned in a year. Many haven't been cleaned ever. Glory Days Washing Machine Cleaning Tablets are the fix. One tablet, one empty hot cycle, once or twice a month — and your washer goes from "secretly disgusting" to "actually clean enough to make your laundry actually clean." Plant-based. Septic-safe. Plastic-free. Fragrance-free. No chlorine bleach, no harsh chemistry, no industrial-cleaner smell. Just a fizzy little tablet that handles pet hair, pet odor, mold, mildew, hard-water buildup, and detergent residue — all the things your washer drum has been collecting in private. 12 tablets (6-month supply) — $17.99 · 24 tablets (1-year supply) · Subscribe & Save 15% · Free shipping over $50 What are Glory Days Washing Machine Cleaning Tablets? Glory Days Washing Machine Cleaning Tablets are plant-based, fragrance-free cleaning tablets designed to deep-clean the inside of your washing machine — the drum, the rubber gasket on front-loaders, the detergent tray, the hoses, and the parts you can't see. They work on every type of washer: HE (high-efficiency), front-load, top-load, agitator, and impeller machines. Each tablet fizzes on contact with hot water, releasing plant-based surfactants, natural enzymes, citric acid, and bicarbonate-based descalers that target three things at once: Pet hair that's embedded in the drum gasket, behind seals, and stuck to the inside of the basket Odor-causing mold, mildew, and bacteria that build up in damp, dark washer interiors (especially the rubber gasket on front-load washers — the #1 source of washer stink) Hard-water mineral deposits and detergent residue that coat the drum and reduce cleaning efficiency over time The result is a washer that's actually clean — and laundry that comes out cleaner because the machine running it isn't fighting six months of buildup. Use one tablet every two weeks, or two per month, for a maintenance routine that pays for itself in extended washer life. Each tablet is individually wrapped to stay dry until use, and the outer packaging is 100% plastic-free and recyclable. The included month-by-month cleaning calendar is a small thoughtful touch — drop the calendar inside your laundry-room cabinet door and you'll never forget a maintenance cycle. Available in: 12 tablets (6-month supply) or 24 tablets (1-year supply). Fragrance: Truly fragrance-free (Purely Perfect family). Pairs perfectly with: Glory Days 3-In-1 Eco Laundry Detergent Sheets for the cleanest possible laundry routine, end to end. How do Glory Days washing machine cleaning tablets work? It's almost embarrassingly simple. The whole process takes about 90 seconds of your attention. Empty the washing machine — no clothes, no detergent. Drop one Glory Days cleaning tablet directly into the empty drum. (Not the detergent tray.) Run a hot cycle — heavy duty, sanitize, or the longest/hottest available setting on your machine. Done. The tablet does the rest. Here's what's happening inside while the cycle runs: The tablet dissolves and fizzes, releasing a wave of fine micro-foam that reaches into every corner of the drum — including the rubber gasket on front-loaders, the underside of the agitator on top-loaders, and the inside surface of the wash basket. The plant-based surfactants and natural enzymes lift trapped pet hair, body oils, detergent gunk, and biological grime off every surface. The citric acid and sodium carbonate dissolve hard-water mineral deposits and lime scale that coat the drum and reduce washing performance. The fragrance-free formula kills odor-causing mold and mildew without leaving its own chemical smell behind. When the cycle finishes, drain the rinse and leave the door open for 30 minutes so the interior fully air-dries. (This single habit is the #1 thing you can do to prevent mold from rebuilding between cleanings.) Use twice a month for active washers, once a month for light users. Pet owners and households with hard water benefit from twice-a-month cleaning. The #1 washing machine cleaner for pet owners If you've got dogs or cats, you already know the problem: pet hair gets everywhere. It coats your clothes. It stays in your dryer lint trap. It lurks inside your washer drum, embedded in the rubber gasket, hiding behind seals you didn't even know existed. You wash a sweater that was perfectly clean, and somehow it comes out wearing a forensic study of every animal in your house. That's because regular laundry detergent isn't designed to remove pet hair from the inside of the machine. It cleans the clothes. The hair just relocates from one piece of clothing to another, with the machine itself acting as the relocation service. The only way to actually solve it is to clean the machine, regularly, with a product engineered for it. Glory Days Washing Machine Cleaning Tablets are formulated specifically for pet-owner washing-machine maintenance. The fizzing micro-foam physically loosens pet hair from the drum surface, the rubber gasket, and the detergent tray, where it can be flushed out during the rinse. The enzymes break down the organic residue (saliva, dander, body oils) that makes pet hair stick to surfaces in the first place. The bicarbonate-based descalers handle the hard-water buildup that traps and holds onto loose hair. A monthly cleaning cycle with one of our tablets dramatically reduces the amount of pet hair that ends up redepositing on your laundry. For multi-pet households, switch to twice a month. Pair with: Glory Days 3-In-1 Eco Laundry Detergent Sheets, whose non-dissolving bamboo-fiber substrate physically captures loose lint and pet hair in the wash water before it can redeposit on your clothes. Cleaning tablets + 3-In-1 sheets = the pet-owner laundry combo. What's actually in our cleaning tablets? Full ingredient transparency. A short, clean ingredient list — exactly how it should be: Sodium Bicarbonate (baking soda) — a natural deodorizer and gentle abrasive Citric Acid — derived from citrus fruits, dissolves hard-water mineral deposits and lime scale Sodium Carbonate (washing soda) — a powerful natural cleaner that lifts grease and biological grime Natural Enzyme Blend — targeted enzymes that break down body oils, pet dander, food residue, and organic buildup Plant-Derived Surfactants — coconut and corn-based cleansing agents that lift dirt and pet hair from surfaces That's it. Five ingredients. All plant-based, all biodegradable, all septic-safe. What you will never find in a Glory Days cleaning tablet Chlorine bleach Phosphates Synthetic dyes Synthetic fragrance (we're fragrance-free) Optical brighteners (irrelevant for a washer cleaner anyway) Animal-derived ingredients (we're 100% vegan) 1,4-dioxane, formaldehyde donors, parabens, or any of the chemistry-set ingredients common in mainstream washer cleaners This matters because the cleaner you use to wash your washing machine ends up rinsed through your plumbing and into your water system. The mainstream washer cleaners on the shelf often contain harsh chemistry that's overkill for a maintenance job and unfriendly to septic systems. Glory Days tablets do the same job — without the collateral damage. Designed for every washer (and every kind of washer hate) Are Glory Days cleaning tablets safe for HE (high-efficiency) washing machines? Yes. Fully HE-compatible. The fragrance-free, low-suds formula is engineered specifically for high-efficiency washers, which use less water than older models and can be sensitive to over-foaming cleaners. Are they safe for front-load washers? Yes — and front-load washers are the #1 use case. The rubber gasket on a front-load washer is the most common source of washer odor because it traps moisture, detergent residue, and biological grime in a dark, sealed environment. The fizzing action of Glory Days tablets reaches into the gasket folds and breaks down the mold/mildew biofilm that lives there. For front-loaders, leave the door slightly open between washes to let the gasket air-dry. This single habit dramatically reduces the rate at which mold rebuilds. Top-load washers? Yes. Top-load washers (both agitator and impeller types) accumulate buildup under the agitator post and on the underside of the lid. The fizzing tablet reaches those areas during the hot cycle. Hard water? Especially yes. Hard-water mineral deposits (limescale, calcium, magnesium) coat the inside of every washer in a hard-water region — typically within months of installation. Glory Days tablets contain citric acid and sodium carbonate that specifically target these deposits, dissolving them so your washer can run efficiently again. Septic systems and greywater? Yes. Every Glory Days product is biodegradable, septic-safe, and greywater-safe. The cleaners that rinse through during the cycle are gentle on your system. Are they safe to use if I have pets? Yes. None of our ingredients are toxic to dogs or cats per the ASPCA Animal Poison Control Center. The tablet runs through an empty cycle (no pets in the washer), and any residue rinsed out is septic-safe and pet-safe. Mold, mildew, and the smell coming from inside your washer If your washing machine smells musty, sour, or like wet gym socks even when it's empty, you have a mold or mildew problem. It's extraordinarily common, especially on front-load washers, and it's not your fault. Modern washers use less water and are sealed environments — perfect conditions for biological growth. Here's what's happening: mold and mildew biofilm forms in the rubber gasket, under the lint trap, around the detergent tray, and inside the drum bearing seals. The biofilm holds onto moisture, traps detergent residue, and feeds on the organic matter (body oils, food particles, pet dander) that comes in with your laundry. Once it's established, regular washing won't kill it — in fact, every new wash cycle adds more food for the colony. A monthly Glory Days cleaning cycle handles this. The natural enzymes and plant-based surfactants break down the biofilm, the bicarbonate and sodium carbonate kill odor-causing bacteria, and the fizzing action physically reaches into the cracks and folds where mold lives. Within 1-2 monthly cycles, the musty smell is gone. Within 3-4 cycles, the visible black spots on the rubber gasket (if you have them) start to clear. The maintenance routine that prevents the problem from coming back: One Glory Days tablet, twice a month, run on the hottest/longest cycle Leave the door open for 30+ minutes after every load to air-dry the interior Wipe the rubber gasket with a clean dry cloth once a week (for front-loaders) Run a hot cycle at least once a week to keep the temperature high enough to kill bacteria That's it. That's the protocol. Most washer-smell problems disappear within 2-3 weeks of starting this routine. Glory Days vs. the old-school washer-cleaning options Three side-by-side comparisons. Because there are three traditional approaches to cleaning a washing machine, and we beat all of them. Glory Days vs. The "Just Use Bleach" Approach Feature Glory Days Cleaning Tablets Chlorine Bleach Removes pet hair Yes (fizzing action lifts hair) No (bleach doesn't lift fibers) Removes mold biofilm Yes (enzymes break it down) Surface kill only — biofilm regrows fast Dissolves hard-water buildup Yes (citric acid + sodium carbonate) No Septic-safe Yes Damages septic biology Skin and lung irritation No Yes Damages rubber gasket No Yes (degrades rubber over time) Plant-based Yes No Fragrance-free Yes "Bleach smell" — lingers in next wash Pet-safe residue Yes No Glory Days vs. The "Vinegar and Baking Soda" Approach Feature Glory Days Cleaning Tablets DIY Vinegar + Baking Soda Dosed for one cycle Yes (one tablet, done) Measure, pour, repeat Removes pet hair Yes Limited Removes mold biofilm Yes (enzymes targeted) Surface only Dissolves hard-water buildup Yes (concentrated citric acid) Yes (vinegar — but slower) Damages rubber gasket No Vinegar can degrade rubber over time Fragrance None Vinegar smell lingers Time required 90 seconds setup Multiple steps, longer prep Convenience Drop one in and forget it Always running out of vinegar Glory Days vs. Typical Branded Washer Cleaners Feature Glory Days Typical Branded Cleaner Plant-based formula Yes No (most are bleach-based or harsh chemistry) Septic-safe Yes Many are not Fragrance-free Yes Heavily fragranced Plastic-free packaging Yes Plastic tub or jug Pet-safe Yes Some contain ingredients toxic to pets if residue remains Designed for pet hair Yes No (most just target odor) Individually wrapped tablets Yes Some bulk, some not Subscribe & Save 15% Varies Cost per cleaning ~$1.50/tablet $1–$3/dose depending on brand We're not the cheapest washer cleaner on the shelf. We're the cleanest, the safest, the most pet-owner-friendly, and the only one that genuinely handles all three problems (pet hair + odor + hard water) in one tablet. How to use Glory Days Washing Machine Cleaning Tablets Time required: 90 seconds of setup, then walk away while the cycle runs. Tools needed: Just your washing machine. Empty the washing machine completely. No clothes, no detergent, no laundry. The tablet works on the machine itself. Unwrap one Glory Days cleaning tablet and drop it directly into the empty drum. (Not the detergent tray — the drum.) Select the hottest, longest cycle your washer offers. "Heavy duty," "sanitize," "tub clean" mode, or simply the hottest temperature available. Start the cycle. Let it run completely. The hot water activates the tablet, the cycle agitates the cleaning foam through the machine, and the rinse phase flushes the dissolved buildup out. When the cycle ends, leave the door open for 30 minutes to fully air-dry the interior. Wipe the rubber gasket on front-loaders with a clean dry cloth. That's it. Repeat twice a month for active washers, especially in pet households or hard-water regions. Once a month is fine for light-use washers in soft-water areas. Pro tips from our customers: Set a calendar reminder for the 1st and 15th of every month so you don't forget. (We include a cleaning calendar inside every pack.) First-time use: if your washer hasn't been cleaned in over a year, run two tablets back-to-back on the first cycle to deep-clean accumulated buildup. Then settle into a maintenance routine. For front-loaders with visible gasket mold: run a Glory Days cycle, then wipe the gasket with a damp cloth while the rubber is still warm. Repeat every two weeks until the gasket is fully clean. Then maintain monthly. Pair Glory Days WMC Tablets with our full eco-luxe laundry lineup A clean washer is just the foundation.
