Wang Mingdao

Wang Mingdao: Faithful in Chains Pastor Wang Mingdao is known as one of the founding leaders of the Chinese evangelical church. His life is a powerful example of courage, perseverance, and trust in God. When his government pressured him to deny the true gospel, Mingdao refused, even though it meant losing his freedom. In a moment of weakness, he wavered—but God restored him. His faith remained strong after that, despite twenty-three long years in prison. In this inspiring biography, children will learn about the persecuted church in modern times, and how God upheld Mingdao through hardship and persecution. His story shows that even in the darkest times, Christ is faithful—and He gives His people strength to stand firm. A powerful modern example of unwavering devotion, this book encourages young readers to trust the Lord no matter the cost. Endorsements “Simonetta Carr’s wonderfully written and illustrated biography of Wang Mingdao will introduce children and their parents to this twentieth-century hero of the faith and the God he loved more than life itself. It will also open a window into the joys and sufferings of Christians in China through occupations, revolutions, and persecutions and deepen the reader’s appreciation for how God is working all things together for the salvation of His people.” —Bruce P. Baugus, editor of China’s Reforming Churches: Mission, Polity, and Ministry in the Next Christendom “Statistics show that the Christian population in China has increased over ten times during the second half of the twentieth century, from four million to almost fifty million. How could Christianity in China grow so much when Western missionary activities had almost entirely ceased? This book on Wang Mingdao’s life offers an answer. It was the power of the gospel of the free grace of God in Jesus Christ that accomplished it, despite hardship and persecutions. Simonetta has done tremendous work again to provide us this valuable volume for our young readers to see God’s invincible love at work in the real world.” —Yi Wang, church planter-pastor at Christ Reformed Church, Anaheim, California “For Chinese Christians, Wang Mingdao is a household name. Many have been inspired by his witness and affected by his teachings. Simonetta Carr has done an excellent job researching and writing this book for younger readers. It enriches the scope of the Christian story and helps our young readers to learn from faithful examples of the one holy and catholic church.” —Baiyu Andrew Song, research associate and teaching fellow of the Andrew Fuller Centre for Baptist Studies, Toronto, Canada About the Author Simonetta Car was born in Italy and has lived and worked in different cultures.
